I wanted to play a BH since they announced the class. Wanted to roll PT tank but in the weekends I have been in Healers have been few and far in between.
I enjoyed playing a SI in the weekends so i ask a question. Should I roll a merc BH healer or a SI healer?
anyone played them?? enjoyed the classes please let me know. and yes I know healing in Tor sucks. But i raided on a Resto Sham in vanilla I am used to crappy ui's.
I see an awful lot of these questions from people 'what tank should i roll?' 'what healer should I roll?' The simple fact is, nobody on the internet has a magic ball that knows instinctively what you will enjoy. The only real way to find out the answer to your question is to roll a class to see.
I have heard that Korriban is the most grindy of the starters. But of the two Pub starters I can find little fault. Yes, the very first Thython quests seem incredibly cliche for an MMO, but it quickly becomes clear that the situation was simply underestimated (overall after that I found only two quests to be downright boring, of which one was there to facilitate a new area). Meanwhile Ord Mantell starts like thunder and lightning, but flattens out until it has a great ending.
So I have a strong feeling it won't be a poor planet, and I'm looking forward to Hutta.
Since they've one-stat-ized all classes, you'll have a *lot* less loot competition with Merc than Sorc. (Billions and billions of lightning-throwers clogging the latter class...)
I had fun on Hutta(as Agent), I wasn't aware it sucks. Do people think it's the worst starting zone or something?
Off topic, like you I enjoyed Hutta. Based solely on leveling speed my thoughts are Korriban > Hutta > Ord Mantell > Tython. I'd imagine that others may have experienced different results based on their differing play styles.
On topic, I think the Merc will have less competion for loot as more people will gravitate toward the Sorc given its lightning, glowstick, and linear resource managment. If I were to heal, I'd go that route .... armored healer after all.
Heh, I intend to make my BH my first healer. Having played a Shaman in WoW I was glad to hear that the healing is slightly similar. At least I prefer that over the classic long casts of the Sorc and I don't like the HoT system with the current UI.

make a BH, you can heal people by shooting them with guns and missiles like in the ProTips comic :P

Thank you for reminding me. Damn those were some good ProTips (the Smuggler one was pretty ace too).
not having played anu healers besifes Trooper i can't comment on the other two. but I"m not a huge fan of it. I'm mid 30s atm so i don't have the instant heal at the top of the tree yet, but i have all of the other heals that you'll get/ The toolbox is just to small. You have no AoE healing capacity, which makes flashpoint healing often very frustrating, particularly the later ones, which have lots of group damage.
While the healing mechanically is reminiscant of a Wrath era shaman (minus chain heal), it feels much more like a BC era paladin. You have two casted heals, both with relatively long cast times, a healing buff for one target, and kolto bomb, and thats it. Most every one of your GCDs must be spent on your tank to keep them up, its very efficient, you can keep up your single target rotation literally indefinitely due ot the nature of the energy system, but incredibly time consuming. The only time i've ever had a tank die is when i was attempting to prevent other members of the group from dieing to AE damage. THe instant cast at the top of the tree wil certainly help, but with a 15 second cd i can't see it solving the problem.
The class was clearly designed with operations in mind, i'm sure its extremely powerful there. It can also be quite frustrating in pvp, again due to the fact that the vast majority of oyour throughput comes from the two long cast time spells which are very very vulnerable to interupts, coupled with the abundance of stuns in pvp, its virtually impossible to accomplish much healing whatsover versus halfway competant opponents. That said if you can manage ot stand back unmolested you can pump out some insane amount of healing, seeing as you can functionally never run out of resource.
IA Medic you get the added benefit of stealth. I would warn though that before lvl 20 IA medic is almost bad in group play. At 20 (kolto probe)-29 it improves to good, then at 30 (surgical probe)+ is when it starts to shine, they are wholly dependent on talents.

Posted 12/2/2011 4:32:02 PMYou could also roll IA medic as well. Sorry if I made your choice harder. :)

Posted 12/3/2011 7:59:55 AMFrom what I've seen, all healing classes will be able to be main healers. I would go for what I enjoy more playing....IA in my case.
