has anyone been able to input their own sort of keystroke targeting system for healing into the game?
I know it does not support macros, but I am wondering if it is possible to set say the F1-F8 keys as "cast kloto on %T" type line in anywhere for a healing "Macro"
Is there anyway at all other then mouse click on player, then use a heal ability?
The only thing you can do is set players as focus target, hold in the focus target modifier button (default button is END) and you can heal them up without switching targets.
Only problem is; most healers like to see boss' % and cast bars, so they will probably set boss as focus target instead of main tanks. That's what I did during beta.
I hope they come up with some new healing functionality. While I could heal with the current implementation, as a raid leader it is really nice to be able to be able to swap targets around to see boss health, cast bars, etc. and still be able to heal the party members taking damage.

Nope forget about Macros least for now atm, addons and some UI changes will come after launch. Get used to keybinds and set your interface up where your raid window is in a place where you can just click on party members fast and heal. I set on my healer the healthbars real big that way I could dictate on when to heal faster, and it worked just fine.
Your also going to find that mouseover not being in game isn't a big deal either, least what I seen. Yea macros does make healing alot better on the move, trust me I had to get used to that fact. But learning keybinding healing, and being aware a little better, does provide a fun experience, least for me it did.
Learn to play noob, sick of you macro toss pots from wow and rift.
You're mad right? They've confirmed that macros and add-ons are going to be in the game. I'm sick of BAD PLAYERS who make POOR DECISIONS and who are SO INEPT that they CAN'T COMPREHEND that they are making BAD DECISIONS.
"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is"
Click-to-cast or mouse-over macros are the evolution of healing. If you don't like them you're more than welcome to not use them, but calling somebody a noob who simply uses the most efficient tools for the job within the ruleset of the game is truly ironic. Georg Z. confirmed at the fan site summit interview that his team were pro-click-to-cast/mouse-over healing and that they'd love to include them into the game. So being against it at this point is just plain idiocy.

well said i could not agree more, why would u not want to use all the tools you could to make your self the best you can. I know i am always looking for new ways to get that lil bit more out of my character.
Not to keep dogpiling on the guy, but the challenge of an MMO should come from the content, not from an artificial barrier imposed by the interface. The same sort of resistance to improving basic UI elements is common among steadfast idiots in other MMOs (*cough* FFXIV *cough*) because people somehow think it's more "hardcore" or "skillful" to have to work around a kludgy UI and making things more user-friendly is "dumbing it down for the casuals."
If you think that macros or mouseover healing is somehow "less skillful" and that the game is better without it, why don't we take it a step further and remove the features for custom keybindings and extra action bars? Number keys 1-0 and a single action bar should be good enough for everyone, right?

Mouse over just helps in key moments when healing, sometimes can prevent wipes, stop with the less skillful talk like your such a legit gamer or something. This old EQ caveman talk I have seen latley in all these forums makes me want to throwup in my mouth, serious. It really does not matter, there are threads about Bioware implementing UI and mouseover addons later in game, if people want to use it then do so, if people don't want to use it, don't.
Who gives a crap if people like using different methods or macros to provide healing, tanking, or dps in a mmo, really.
It's that simple..
Did you quote the wrong guy? Or...
Because I agree with you. Mouseover healing, macros, whatever; they're all good.

Indeed, the challenge should come from the content. However, you need to know what addons do and macro's too to some extent, it seems. There are certain functionalities in macros within an MMO like WoW which allow you to put every single ability into one button, depending on how your class works by design and it can be effective. In WoW's case this is the DK. I believe they probably still haven't fixed that so much, but usually macros are just a useful tool to give players better control. Especially modfier buttons which saves your space on your action bar, keeping it clean.
Addons however are a darned plague and a blessing. Yes, it allows people to make their fancy UI which they can move around and suit to their taste. There is a significant backlash though, addons can become sophisticated beyond what the standard mechanics of the game can beat off. This means that addons that track combat mechanics will pretty much serve as an interactive-on-the-spot-guide for any clueless player, making them able to ignore using their head and eyes to observe what happens, since there eventually will be addons saying in large letters what to do.
I would also like to add that WoW evolved their boss mechanics alot from Vanilla and TBC up to Cata, it wasn't just bad mechanics but evolving addons that made the game borderline easy. By the time of Cata they had a built in mechanic in the standard UI to track boss mechanics and give visual feedback in the form of a line of text on the screen, warning you to walk out of the fire. Yea, that actually happened. Now, I played Cata and although I thought that it even at launch would be a walk in the park in blues+ (which it was) they ended up nerfing it when people couldn't manage simple mechanics that had evolved since Wrath. So yes, addons do sometimes lessen the skill of a player and many healers rely so much on these addons that they become clueless when they have to start from scratch. I'm not kidding, it is that bad in some cases. But that doesn't mean that every macro or addon is bad, of course.
I completely understand why they don't want to have full addon support from launch though. WoW had some issues with the addons that tracked mechanics, quite a bit actually.
Now, SW:TOR does need to allow a little UI configuration in moving around stuff more and perhaps some macro support, since that should be a standard in any mmo.
Let's hope they give their customers some freedom and that they also don't get kicked in the groin for doing so by suffering too easy content as a result.
