Although I'm planning on rolling a Trooper as my main, the more I see of the Jedi Knight, the more I feel like playing as a super-cool Miraluka Sentinel. My biggest concern so far, the one that stopped me from choosing the Jedi Knight in the first place, is that I think that all the servers will be crowded with newbie Jedi Knight's that know nothing about MMOs or the Old Republic itself; I always hated to pick the most famous class in every game I play, but I also love the looks of the Jedi Knight based on what I've seen so far. Anyway; is it just me, or do you potential knights share my concern?
Each and every class is unique in its own way bringing many different play-styles to the game. Saying that, yes, I do believe there will be many Jedi class Noob's when the game first comes out but is that A bad thing? In fact Bioware made the game in this time-line specifically so they could explain why there are so many Jedi. Frankly I would love to rock a party of 2 JK's and 3 JC's :P.
I wouldn't necessarily say it's a concern, but what you are outlining I expect to be the case. I expect that JK:Sentinal and Smuggler:Gunslinger on the Republic side are both going to have a ton of noobs that know little about the game populating their ranks. I also expect that there will be much PvP QQing from these same noobs who chose to play Sith Warriors or Inquisitors that get killed by troopers complaining that they made troopers too strong/wrong side/etc because they will expect them to be like stormtroopers, white armored cannon fodder, instead of the blaster cannon wielding death machines they are going to be.
But you could also take it the other way and figure that while the JK ranks may have a bunch of noobs in it, if you play your class, and play it well, you will stand out from the crowd and end up becoming known on your server as being someone who isn't a complete jerkoff and terrible at the game. People always seem to remember the exceptions to the rule better than the rule itself.

Well, for starters, I'm not so sure I'm way better than the average noob... but I see what you mean, and it is a good point. I gues what bothers me the most, though, is the feeling of playing the most obvious class choice; but it's probably just a personal issue. I guess I'll just roll a trooper as my main, and a JK as my first alt and problem solved.
Honestly I have this concern as well. I love the classic image of the Jedi, the Jedi is the MAIN reason I love Star Wars. For the reason the OP talks about though I was considering going Consular, however I just feel as though they aren't iconic enough as Jedi. Being a Jedi Knight is like, my fantasy.
I am afraid though that I might not be a super great player or min/maxer, and then will be seen as a noob. I also lean towards Sentinel because I don't like Jedi in armour. This has happened to me in MMOs before... (in WoW for example I was a Night Elf Hunter and I was new to MMOs...yeah...), so I am a little paranoid about it.
Plus I like to be somewhat individual and not have a hundred people looking exactly like me running around crashing the servers.
Noob and noob are different. People which are new in the game, just having fun and experience the game to me they are simple enjoying and are not the ones I am "afraid" of. People which think they know everything perfect but lack to achieve even the easiest goals while constantly talking about their awesomeness and everyone else's "noobish behavior" are much more in that scope.
I would forecast the highest amount of this kind to be seen within the Sith classes since.. being "bad" and kicking everybody's ass seems to fit with their behavior.

I resemble that remark! Not really, but hey, lay off the Sith, we're just misunderstood. Besides, at least you'll have a reason to hate and fear us. MWAH HAH HAH HAA!
Well I'm not a noob, I've played around 7 MMO's in the last 8 years or so and really know my way around MMO's for the most part and I'm most definetly choosing the Jedi Knight as my main. I think it's a crying shame that people want to play the JK but choose not to because of fear of so many other people choosing it. Well it'd make sense for the JK to be the most popular class.... I mean what's the top things you think of right away when Star Wars comes to mind? The Force, lightsabers, and Jedi. The Jedi is iconic to Star Wars, if I could live in my own personal fantasy world, then I would live as a Jedi trying to save the galaxy from being taken over by the Dark side of the Force. So for those of you who are shying away from the Jedi Class just because of stupid noobs, don't be a moron... show those noobs what it takes to be a real Jedi.
Everyone should choose what he feels comfortable with, don't mind the population of your class because it wouldn't change anything on your game experience.
Class population may not change the mechanics of playing a class, but it can change the overall experience quite drastically. If you can't get a group because there is such a glut of Jedi Knights, it will prevent you from completing certain quests, seeing content, and possibly enjoying the game if you are into grouping. Unless you are truly spectacular at the class, you will be viewed as a dime a dozen. That matters to some people.
I'm hoping SWTOR doesn't suffer from the "Looking for Tank" phenomenon. Hopefully, if you truly find yourself stuck with 3 other Jedi Knights unable to get a group, then you could group with the Jedi Knights and form an effective group, all with your Healing companions out obviously.
I belive every game will have the so called "huntards".. But my experiance is that "tards" exsist in every class. But JK might get abit attention from the younger audiance, the same way The Alliance got in WoW, but that dosent mean it will be a "newb-class".
I was thinking that the Republic would attract the younger audience (like the alliance did in WoW) but then I realised that being a mean ol' sith would too.

Posted 9/6/2010 3:44:54 PMPick the Trooper - people don't know if you're a noob or not.
And there sure will be shortage of Troopers when the game comes out according to the official poll about class excitement.
