I have foundly only "hood on" versions and can't take much more. At level 22. Just want a Jedi that looks like the ones BW has been showing us for three years, with his hood down.

It's a good suggestion. Only best way to get a such feature is have like couple dozen friends guild members to start up a mass viral campaign and hope that it wakes up one the devs haha. But I think a feature will soon be around after release as already enough people been upset with going bald and looking funny with the hoods.
Any orange gear can be remodded to fit your class assuming that you have the armor proficiency for it (i.e., Jedi Guardians can use Orange Heavy Armor that originally has stats for Troopers but a Jedi Sentinel can't because they are limited to medium armor).
There are lots of folks who will purposely buy armor sets that looks out of character (i.e., Sith Inquistors in Bounty Hunter-looking gear). Might be useful in PvP.
I've already seen Troopers in Jedi Knight Robes and Jedi Knights in Trooper gear, but they tend to be nubs who are wearing gear statted for the opposing class, who perhaps also like the look. I do like how my Trooper looks in dressing room with a Jedi robe mixed with all his other armor. I could see getting some of the gear later on just for a unique "walking around town" look.
I picked up a pretty nice visor type helmet that forces the hood on my jedi robes down. I believe it was a commendation helm from either belsavis or voss... mindful guardian?
I rolled Twi'lek just to force the hood down, personally. Miss the old "hood down" robes from the beta. I wonder if wearing a trooper helm like Phobium Onslaught and then hiding it would work.
What I truly miss is the Jedi Guardian armor without robes or capes. I still can't understand why they decided to consolidate Sentinel and Guardian armor together.
They consolidated all the class armors, Regault. Go look at any of the class Armor Progression Videos, then look in-game. None of those sets are AC specific. Hell I've never even seen some of the armors in the videos(the first Vanguard armor in the video, the camo stuff you see Vanguard on Taris using)(or the exact colors of the second Vanguard set). One minor disappointment I've had from prelaunch hype not carrying over to in-game.
*edit* Even tier and pvp sets that favor stats of a specific AC still just look like recolors of the same pieces that have stats favoring the other ACs. Really wish they'd done forward with the AC specific sets.

Posted 11/29/2011 9:27:13 AMIt might be possible to use a trooper prototype armor with all the slots empty, and replaced with JK appropriate mods.

Posted 11/29/2011 9:50:57 AMNo. Chest armour with hood are not covered by that preference. Leading to obscured heads regardless.
