Defense Guardian Stats

  • #1 Turophile

Hey guys, had a question. What stat should we be getting, power, defense, or absorption? I have been getting absorption, but i see how the other ones could benefit you aswell. So what one do you think and why?

http://www.darthhater.com/articles/feature/19831-guide-sith-warrior-juggernaut It's on the homepage >_> (it's the same class right?)

Yes, same class. I read that aswell, but i was wondering what the community was finding to workout the best. The artice brings out the the combat ratings that are good for the class, but i was wondering which ones work for what situation, why you are usuing that, and so on. :)

this says that defense is better, under the heading Calculating your DR%, it has a formula that explains it.

yes, for guardian tank, defense is deffinetly better. look at your skills, like the saber ward. there is nothing for absorption/shield rating in the skill tree, but there are some defense skills. now that is not saying I WISH shield/absorption rating was for the jedi knight. if they decide to change it, I will be happy to go the shield route, and I think defense is great for a jedi shadow, but not for jedi knight, just not with how they have been portrayed. when you think of a jedi guardian, you think of someone soaking up a ton of damage. when u think of a jedi shadow tank, you think of someone that dodges alot. still, go with defense.

For a Defensive Guardian, defence rating is your best bet since it gives you the chance to completely block out damage.  Absorption and Shield simply mitigate the damage.  That mitigation is very, very important for Kinect Combatants & Darkness Assassins (couldn't think of a good name for them) because they lack heavy armour.  They need to focus on absorbing and/or shielding every attack rather than just defending against it.

Edit:  Here's the Sith Inquisitor guide from Darth Hater that shows the difference: http://www.darthhater.com/articles/feature/19842-guide-sith-assassin-introduction

I think you're confused on how the shield works.

It only triggers a portion of the time, not for each attack.
It's explained in detail in the article linked above.  In the end, you have a small percentage to mitigate a portion of the damage.
For example, here you will notice the shield triggers 5% of the time and absorbs 20%.
You are attacked a 100x for 100dmg, a total of 10,000 dmg.  That shield will mitigate : 100 dmg.
Now that is on top of the defense benefits to dodge and parry, rather to avoid all incoming damage, but it's still not a lot.
If the % improved per rating point is equal, it will always make more sense to avoid the damage all together.
