    Greetings,

the release of SWTOR is coming closer and closer and after months of Beta Testing I finaly decided that I'll play the Smuggler on the release.
But now I'm in kind of a pickle and I need your help to decide this problem with me.

Since I don't have much time to play SWTOR due to my work on YouTube (my job) and university, I will probably focus on missions and PvP (mostly).
I also tested both advanced classes in PvE and PvP before and I can only say they're both great. But I need some opinions on it.

    Scoundrel:

    •  stealth (I like to have the option to go invisible and play tactical)
    • a good chunk of stuns to control your enemy in close range
    • melee class mostly, maybe it's just a nail in the coffin?
    • scattergun and some good opener to shock your enemy if they're singled out

    Gunslinger:

    • 30-35 meters of range on the maximum
    • high damage
    • protecting your team
    • bad against stealth guys, when they got you, they got you
    • has to be in cover most of the time which makes you a sitting duck

I usualy play very tactical and team based. I always try to weaken the enemy or stop them from supporting others -> thus giving us the edge.
So far I tend to get the Scoundrel just because it's...well, how do I say this without upsetting anyone, it seems like the better choice because of the stealth options, but I just don't like how he's all melee based. There are SO many other melee classes that can just stun and gun you in close range.

Your opinion would be very much apprechiated!

Yeah, if I were to take a melee based stealth character I would go jedi shadow. For smuggler, if I wasn't healing, gunslinger all the way. Being up in melee range, it's hard to get a wide view of the entire fight.

I'll admit, I loved seeing the Scoundrel pvping on DH's "RJ Eternity Vault Livestream"(the XFire Steam in the stream post from yesterday/Sat night). Lots of up close stunning and wrecking that reminded me of a Rogue from WoW but with guns. It definitely made me consider Scoundrel over the Gunslinger that I was pirevously dead set on.

Yeah I've seen that one too, but I played it myself and it's just interesting to pick out targets and beeing a douchebag, killing the guys that got away with low health without them noticing too much. You're the guy who cleans up the mess afterwards with a stealth ability, that's why I think it might be interesting.

See, that's what is weird tho', you have a very wide view with the Gunslinger, but you are often just too stationary (i know that's what the class is all about) and you're an easy target for EVERY melee class once they decide to take care of you.
It's a great damage dealer with almost no survivability when people actualy try to take you out.

I guess I can't get my head around the idea of an advanced class that uses guns being forced into melee to use their attacks. It seems wierd.

    I see your point there.
The scoundrel is a dirty brawler. I mean if you think about weapons in general, most deaths are from shootings on 12m or less. So I see their point in giving the scoundrel exactly that range (mid range), long range for some skills, close range for the real trouble.
I just like the advantage of all the stuns and crowd control mixed with stealth.

I personally love gunslinger over scoundrel since I played in teams all the time during beta, although admitedly not extensively as a smuggler. From my time with it, and extensive time as IA Sniper (Mirrors gunslinger fairly well), I can confidently say stuck in cover isnt a bad thing. Sure, you wouldn't be running around. You would be blasting things to itty bitty pieces instead. /chuckle. The scoundrel's melee is crazy deadly, but when there is more than one enemy I have prefered not charging ahead in stealth since then I'm a huge target as soon as I attack, and if I would stay back in the group AOE's would ruin the whole stealth part. Not saying scoundrel isn't beast when suprising an unexpecting enemy, but with lots of people like there are in SWTOR pvp.... cover ftw.

We have nothing to Fear but Fear itself. And space spiders. Those things are creepy.

I see, well thanks for your insight. Now I'm even more in a pickle when it comes to choosing my class for the release. It could be hell a lot of fun but how did you deal with all the stealthers ambushing you? I mean as soon as you stand out of a group, you're getting targeted.

1 word: shotguns. The gun that you use when you want to wreck people in melee.

Well technically scatterguns, but the execution is the same as shotguns.

    This is a tough choice.

I played both to the mid-30's and enjoyed them both. Scoundrel is a much more Rogue-like class, and the healing helped me stay in fights longer.

Gunslinger has a great visceral SW feel. Takes a little longer to get anywhere since you can't stealth around everything though ;)

A Scoundrel is a hit and run PvPer which jumps healers and long range shooters but should try to avoid melee vs melee brawling.  You come out of stealth with the scatter gun equipped to do a sequence like Shoot First, Back Blast, Dirty Kick, Vital Shot, Sucker Punch, Flying Fists, and Blaster Whip.  Your primary target will be either down or hurt severely depending on your balance of stats, timing and skill.  By this time an aware team is converging on your position and we can then switch to dual pistols while backing away firing off Burst, Basters Blazing, Quick Shot, Flash grenade and Headshot at the closest enemy.  If there is a number close together use your AoEs such as Flury of Bolts, Blaster Volley, Shrap Bomb, Flash grenade and other grenades.  Even if you do not kill anyone with your initial attack you have severely weakened and send the opposition into chaos which is very useful for your teammates fighting on the front lines.  I can not wait to play a high level Scoundrel in PvP because it will be a total blast figuratively and literally.  To limit a scoundrel as a melee only PvPer does the class no justice.

I thought Dual Pistols were Gunslinger only.

Dual Pistols are Gunslinger only, like portable cover.

Yeah, I decided that I'll go with a Scoundrel.
Sure the Gunslinger has a huge damage potential but I noticed that most people are way to focused what's in front of them and / or don't even care when people next to them get attacked. So it's a great thing to get healers and other stuff with a stealth based character.

I mean the only advantage on stealth is the moment of surprise and that's what makes PvP.

    EDIT:
I should say that this is an opinion, not a fact. It is my opinion that the Scoundrel would be worth much more in my hands than a gunslinger.

I loved playing the scoundrel.  I am torn between the scrapper and sawbones tree.  Both suited my playstyle in pvp.  Being that you can see the others health bars.  I would look for low health players that I could stealth up close and scattergun, dirty kick and pistol whip.  If they were standing close to gumby, that was even better I would combat roll into cover to close the distance then go into my attacks.

Out of the three trees available to scoundrel I could be happy playing any of them, but Sawbones and scrapper really appeal to me.  Sawbones gives me the healing I want and being a total all out annoyance on the pvp field.  Srapper gives me the up close harder hit and run attacks being just as annoying, and making them cuss you.
