I've been wondering lately if the backpacks seen somewhat more frequently as of late are going to truly be a customizable gear-piece, or if it's going to correspond to whatever chest piece we end up with at the time. I see somewhat of an even mix of Vanguards and Commandos wearing backpacks in screenshots, so I'm kind of leaning toward it being like the Force-users' capes, only more functional to what the Trooper is doing.
I'm hoping they go along the ME2 route and allow customization with certain items that are cosmetic more than practical. I don't think everyone will want to wear kamas or backpacks, but some will.
Kamas are epic. I prefer the term butt capes though. Sounds funnier. Great avatar by the way. That's the one I always use to show people how epic butt capes are.
I want my Trooper to keep his cigarettes in his back pack.
Aren't the backpacks part of the suits life support? I assume they have life support due to the EVA stuff in clone wars (which I've only just started watching! It's like an untapped carnival of starwarsness. Without the research.)

I was under the impression it was going to be part of the chest piece we end up with. Either way I'm fine tbh. While tanking you're usually staring at monsterous balls or kneecaps anyway.
From examining a bunch of screenshots, I believe the backpacks are a function of the chest piece of your armor. I'd love if they were a separate piece, but I don't believe that is the case.

Posted 7/23/2011 8:18:11 AMThe backpack and other similar things on the back (other than your weapon) are part of the chest piece of gear. ... Or so I hear anyway oOooOo.

Posted 8/30/2011 8:03:27 PMMore than likely it is just a cosmetic piece and not functional at all. I would love to be proven wrong on this assumption though.

Posted 12/8/2011 10:36:01 AMBackpacks are part of the chest piece. Buttcapes are part of the legs. They are not separate slots.
