Crew Skills

  • #1 xMerikhx

In WoW my main had gathering skills and I had crafting alts and I was thinking of doing the same with swtor. My main is a trooper so i was thinking going gathering skills and have crafting alts.
It says you can have 3 crew skills but you can only have 1 crafting skill,  and I'm not sure about mission skills does the mission skill take place of one of your 3 crew skills or can you just do them.
My question is what crew skills are you guys and gals going to pick up and if crafting alts are gonna be good for swtor?

Well seeing I'm going to be a tank there is no choice other than Armortech. And the two crew skills that go hand in hand with it I feel would be scavenging and slicing. Acquiring mechanical parts for scavenging and computer data from the slicing just seems to go great with everything about the Trooper.

There are a couple of rules as I understand it, based on any info I've been able to learn.

<list type="ordered">3 Crew Skills Maximum, including Gathering, Crafting and Mission
    1 Crafting Skill Maximum[/list]

So, you could have three Mission skills, three Gathering skills, one of each, etc, etc.

I think I read somewhere that Bioware is in the process of removing crafting bonuses from companions, because they've seen situations where someone's healing companion wasn't available because they were in the middle of a 24 hour craft for example. They tried to keep the bonuses slight to avoid this situation, but that underestimates the Min/Max community. What I'd like to see if this is the problem, is bonuses companions give apply to the whole crew instead. So if Vette has a Treasure Hunting bonus, it doesn't matter who goes on the Mission, they'll get her bonus. This would only matter if the various bonuses are different between each class's companions. Alternatively, allow you to swap your companions on Crew Skills, i.e. if Vette is needed, but she's busy on a Treasure Hunt, let you swap her out for Lt Pierce, lose her bonus, but maintain her progress.

As a tank I'd take Armortech, Scavenging and Underworld Trading.  Underworld Trading will allow you to get some of the more rare heavy armor materials you won't be able to get from scavenging.  Slicing is nice, but other than a few rare recipes it's just going to get you credits.

Actually, cybertech is going to be a great one for Vanguard as well.  I am doing Scavenge > Cybertech > Underworld.

I have a bet going with a couple people I'm playing with that once people start raiding - everyone will be going biochem since it gives you those items that increases stats for a certain time, kinda like an on use trinket.  All the professions have items that are BOP but some of them will be replaced via operations/flashpoints.  This is a list of stuff to craft for armormech since i saw someone was going to do that:  http://www.starwarstor-guides.com/armormech.htm enjoy :-)   I am probably going cybertech and that crewskill gives you items that are usable on targets to do damage or stun or slow them (not usable in warzones from what I read) but still usefull in raids!  I feel like I should make a list of the unique advantages to each crewskill.  Maybe after finals are done!
