I've Run into this problem of trying to level as heals or as Dps. I also like Healing in FP's and can't seem to do the job in Dps spec as some people from diffrent forums have recommended to do. Eventually I decided against Healing in Dps spec and just attempt leveling in heals and its slower then before but i dont have to switch inbetween specs when i want to do something diffrent. Any ideas on what i should do since i plan on healing at 50?
I would do this but I like doing alot of Flash Points inbetween Planets and i dont really feel like switching inbetween planets. Seems like a waste of money since respecs addd up after awhile.
I started leveling as Healing Merc; but I intend to utilize the fact healers are very wanted for heroic quests and flashpoints. And also do quite some PvP.
For questing sub-25 healing spec does just fine on dps. As a matter of fact, I feel almost more powerful with my heal spec than my IA Sniper whilst leveling. But I know for a fact that mobs past 25 get a lot tougher.
Once I hit level 10 and chose Mercenary as my advanced class, I decided to choose a DPS spec since I though it would be better for leveling. My friends wanted me to heal through flashpoints and heroic quests though, so I quickly respecced to Bodyguard, and stayed this way up until level 50, having no problems whatsoever when questing solo. I guess it's quite a viable option if you like healing and want to learn your role well before hitting the level cap.

Get Muzzle Fluting from the Arsenal tree then go up the Bodyguard tree. 9% extra aim and 6% extra damage on power-short as pre-reqs.
You can spam powershots like a pro for damn good damage (just as good as an Arsenal specced merc in the short-term, slightly less in long-term given the ramping up nature of Arsenal damage) and still heal like a champ.
