Sith sorc healing guide

  • #1 dulfy

Hey everyone, I have written what I think its a pretty comprehensive guide on sith sorc healing (PVE). It is written for audiences that are level 50. Keep in mind that like all guides, alot of the things are personal choices/opinions but I try my best to justify my reasoning,

    It covers several topics

    • Build - what I think is the optimal build and my reasonings for PVE.
    • Gear - what PVE/PVP gearing options are avilable at 50.
    • A rough healing rotation and how to DPS as a healer to help meet enrage timers
    • Stats pritorization - what does alacrity, crit rating, surge rating, power, force power, willpower all do for me and which stats should I focus on more and which stats give me the most return? (fairly length section, lots of theorycrafting and math)
    • Crew skills - what I recommend for crew skills and why.
    • UI setup
Link: You can visit my blog and read the article - http://dulfyforce.wordpress.com/2012/01/12/sith-sorcerer-healing-guide/
Alternatively, if you don't like the narrow column of my blog or the fact that you have to click on pictures to expand them, try this link http://feature.mmosite.com/swtor/site_sorc_healing_guide.shtml

As always, feedback are appreciated and I can answer any questions you have.

Awesme guide Dulfy! I've really liked all of your guides that I've read. 2 things:

1.) Under UI Setup - "You need to go your preferences window and click on User Interference " should be interface

2.) What do you use for keybinds? For example can you take a screenshot of your UI? I've been having a hard time deciding where I should be putting my abilities (there's too many!!) and it feels like I'm readjusting my buttons every other day. I'm a biochem as well so I've been trying to work the adrenals/stims/medpacks into the mix as well but not having any luck. Any suggestions?

Here is a Screen shot of my UI form a recent operation.  I keybind EVERYTHING!  If I need to use it, I cant take the time to click it.

apparently, this forum isn't screenshot friendly....

    I keybind A ,D, F, G, Y, T, s+D ,s+F, s+G, s+F ,s+Y, etc...  You can see.

If I could get my Sidewinder x7 to work I would have even more keybinds.

All you can really do is recommend that players use keybinds; perhaps a walkthrough on where to go to set them.  Sounds silly but a friend of mine could not find the keybind section in preferences for the life of him until I was over one day and he made mention of it, which I then pointed it out to him.

    Great guide, btw.  :)

Yeah I'm the same way. I think because we're a lot more versatile than what my priest was in WoW it'sbeen  difficult for me to make my UI viable in both. With my priest I'd have all my heals and a couple DPS abilities on my toolbar if I was healing and then if I was DPS, I'd have all my DPS abilities and then 2 or 3 healing spells. Now with my healing spec'd sorc I need to have EVERYTHING easily obtainable which I seem to be struggling with. Feels like a lot of trial and error where I'll set everything up and it feels good, and then there's that one ability you didn't think of that you suddonly need and is in a weird spot. So then you start all over again. It's helpful to see what everyone else does because maybe they thought of something you haven't yet.

    That's an amazing guide.

Thanks for taking the effort to put that up. I've linked it on my guild site too!

It's far too late to warn me about over-reliance on the double bending bug though! Months after they fix it I'll still be hitting Resurgance, Innervate then an immediate Dark Infusion!

Completely agree with you in the gameplay guide. There's a slight difference in my play in that I've removed Dark Heal from my toolbar as I find it utterly useless. I also do exactly the same as you with DPS; DoTs first then lightning strike and shock.

I also have nearly the same skill tree setup as you, although I have the damage reduction from Madness rather than the lightning strike pushback point. As you rightly point out, though, the difference is down to personal taste with those last points.

I think what really makes your guide so useful, is the advanced section at the end, with the static barrier stat breakdown, something I wasn't aware of until I read through your work, and also the secondary stat choice.

This is definitely essential reading for those rolling an Inquisitor healer.

    Thanks again.

Keybinds hehe. I have a rather small hand and don't have the years of MMO experience some of you do so my hand isn't too flexible when it comes to pressing odd key combinations on the keyboard. Reaching anything behind 5, T, G , B  on the keyboard is diffcult for me so I restrict myself to a rather small combination of keys on the keyboard.

I have keys 1, 2, 3, 4 setup for Resurgence, Innervate, Dark Infusion and Static Barrier. For 5 I have Force Storm but I swap it with Purge depending on the encounter.

I have a Logitech G5 mouse (I think) that can move the scrollwheel left and right and also two small buttons are adjusting the DPI (it also have two side buttons but they don't work). What I did is keybind the four abilities: Force Lighting, Shock, Revivification, and Consumption to really odd places on the keyboard, keys I never really use (i.e. insert, home, page up, delete) and then link them to the mouse buttons. For example I have Force Lighting for when I move my scrollwheel left, shock when I move it to the right. Revivification when I press the top DPI button and Consumption when I press the bottom DPI button. I am looking into the Razer Naga as it has alot of side buttons but I am not sure if that is actually useful (sounds great though).

I have Q for Extriction, X for my Rakata alacrity adrenal, F for my relic (surge + crit), V for recklessness, E for my Rakata crit rating, Z for my Rakata medpac. H for m force speeed.

    For Shift +1 I have Crushing Darkness, Shift +2 I have Affliction, Shift +3 I have Lighting Strike. Shift + A I have Force Slow, Shift +Q I have Tumult, Shift + E I have Jolt, Shift + W I have Electrocute, ctrl + R I have my mount, ctrl + X I have the stun breaker, ctrl + c I have huttball.

Also I find it easier to read the cooldown on my bottom bars rather than my left or right bars so I will put stuff like Jolt, whirlwind, electrocute, etc.. again on my bottom bars just so I can see their cooldown.

Hey, about your mouse, your side buttons aren't working because of the way the mouse talks to the game. To fix this, download the drivers from Logitech, open the program, go to advanced settings, application specific button settings, and change the bindings of your tilt wheel and side buttons to things like (ctrl+alt+\) and (ctrl+alt+]).

Then in game, you can set each mouse button twice like this: in keybindings, click left quickslot 12 and push the mouse button. it will come up as (ctrl+alt+\). then click left quickslot 11 and hold SHIFT and click the same mouse button. it will come up as (ctrl+shft+alt+\). Rinse and repeat with different mouse buttons.

I have the same buttons, minus the DPI settings ones, and and including holding shift and scrolling up and down, have 12 different bindings on my mouse. Of course, if I wanted to get uncomfortable I could have more, but I don't need anymore, and the ones I have are all very easy. I also collapse the bottom bar of my UI and have the "back" side button on my mouse switch between my healing and dps bars, which also really opens up alot of new possibilities, and lets me see more on my screen :)

    Good luck!
