While I can approve of actively gearing for tanking stats while still levelling up, you need to decide whether you want to level by tanking FP's or just by doing missions (or pvp).
Your choices right now don't matter a whole lot, as you can tank any normal mode FP appropriate to your level, if you just pick mission rewards that are "tanky" eg. have more end than your other primary stat, if possible.
I levelled as a darkness assasin from 10 -> 50, most of the time using lightning charge and doing dps while my tanking companion (Khem Val) kept the mobs off my own back. Sure it wasn't the fastest way to do it, but on the other hand I hardly ever died without other severe mishaps when doing missions.
While Shield Absorb seems like a totally rockin' stat at the moment since you get lots of % for only a few rating points, remember that absorb doesn't come in to play if your shield chance is low. And if your def % was high, you wouldn't need shield at all :)
At the end game, having the ratings somewhat balanced with def rating = shield rating = 2x absorb rating (just as a ROUGH outline) makes for a balanced allround assasin gearing strategy, but once you start getting Tionese/Columi/Rakata gear, all that just gets a lot harder to pull off properly :)
So, to keep it short, do missions, take the tanky rewards, run FP's when/if you want.. and your stats will be what you make them. Don't waste a lot of creds trying to kit out items that will be outdated in 3-4 levels (orange items are an exception since you can replace mods).
If you're tanking, keeping dark charge on is ofc the way to go. Don't use a Force Focus if you're any kind of tank spec, that's a bit of a waste - just accept the loss of some force power and rejoice that you have loads more survivability.
And don't keep up Dark Ward if mobs aren't hitting you, that's just a waste of attention/GCD and Force

Posted 1/26/2012 12:12:25 PMHello all,
Yesterday I swapped to the "core" of the hybrid (23/0/18) tank built. I'm at 23/0/0 atm.
I changed some of the item modifications I have to +def, absorbtion but left most of them as is as they were giving more end.
Currently at my level (32) my stats are at this:
6k health
3k armor
30% dmg reduction
17% def
20% shield chance
24% shield absorp (without dark ward)
Is this enough to tank regular FPs?
I am working on getting the level 40 tanking gear but that's going to be a few levels away.
Also, while leveling with this spec, should I use a shield and dark charge or use focus and lightning charge?
Thanks for all the help!
