ok so i had this argument on another forum and i cant find the exact place i posted this on and i know it wasnt here
but basically,i was told during my asking about world pvp.that whatever there doing with the wvwvwv thing isnt exactly considered a battleground but its not really considered world pvp.cuz i mean, ive been there and done that when it comes to devs claiming things that what they arent and this sounds like its pretty much the same deal.cuz wvwvwv to me just looks like a really huge battleground
just wondering from people who've actually played the beta and have actually did the wvwvw thing and have did battlegrounds in other mmorpgs.is it not really considered a battleground.it kinda disapoints me that mmos are turning away from the real world pvp and just making it lame battlegrounds that will get boring the millionth time you've did them
Its a gigantic open world zone i would say. It was quite impressive i couldnt explore it all in the weekend beta and believed me i tryed to. Theres an underground to thats just as huge as the top. Thiers no way in hell that swtors gonna be able to compete with that rvr. Gabe and that team is to incompetent gw2 will take 95% of the tor pvp playerbase i have no doubts. When you can have 100's of people pvp'ng in the same zone and swtor cant even do instanced pvp right its quite depressing.
I did rvr for the entire weekend literally lol maybe got 3 hours sleep between friday and sunday night and it never got boring i will admit i got burnt out at some points it was to much pvp i havent pvp that much in years lol
When 95% of the TOR playerbase quits, where will Hargrayve go to troll like mad?
guess i should be a lemming say everythings ok and awesome eh? i said the pvp playerbase. Im not trolling either just want tor to fix thier mess of a game and quit screwing around

its funny you bring swtor into this.when the topic wasnt really about swtor
Did you miss Hargrayve's saying this?

My remark was a response to that.
*edit* You actually responded to that very statement yourself earlier, so why the cold shoulder to me for responding to the same remark you did?

Sorry to double-post, but my first post enough quotes as is so I figure a second post. Hargrayve, when was the last time you said something nice about TOR on DH's forums or article comments? The Q&As are you giving a lot of grief, as are the forums. Sorry if you've made some positive remarks that I didn't notice, the negative ones just stick out so much.
The topic's fine. I haven't played GW2 so I can't say much beyond what I chipped in with Hargrayve. A friend of mine played the weekend but he only focused on crafting and such, didn't touch PvP, so I can't remark there. This topic's only a few hours old and the DH boards are slow, give it time for others to respond.
My friend wasn't too impressed, for what it's worth. He thought the combat reminded him of TERA(that he did a beta weekend of the weekend before), and the crafting standard fare. But as I said, he didn't touch pvp so I can't remark on that. Sorry for the topic derailing. Hopefully others will chip in.
To respond to your first statement. It's not a battle ground they do have those though. WvWvW is basically 4 huge pvp areas 3 of them are owned by the individual servers and there is one that is free to be taken by everyone. Now you can take another server's castles and towers as your own and then that server can defend it and at the same time they can be taking your keeps on your server's map. As for like pvp servers there are none for open world pvp.
The reason is 1) it doesn't go with the story. 2) they want to encourage co-op play styles. In the pve area's there is a lot to do that can be done with large groups of people. So when your filling a heart (quest zone) and someone helps you they fill theirs as well and vice versa. In short no out in the world pvp just stuff you can chose to do.
considering how old the GW2 beta is.. Reading that u cant find the place where u had this "argument" makes me worries.. I got a few friends who specialize in these types of things.. Want a number? It makes me sad seeing a fellow human getting these symptons in such a young age. I would seek medical help before it gets worse.
"Open world pvp" just means ganking to me. Ganking isn't pvp, it's ganking. It's like a heavyweight boxer running around punching old people and children. I spent too much time on PvP servers in other games being permaganked by large groups of higher level players to hold any other opinion on the matter.
As Savlin23 pointed out, open world pvp doesn't really fit with how the questing system works either. There are a large number of "events" that you wander across that are basically area group quests. Everyone contributes to everyone else's progress in these quests, so it goes against the spirit of the leveling environment to allow ganking.
What arenanet seems to be doing with their WvWvW system is taking concepts like Wintergrasp/Tol Barad from WoW or the Aion equivalent to a new level. You have 3 servers competing in a massive battle and the winner gets a bonus to their realm. What that bonus is I have no idea, but it's apparently good enough to fight over.
From seeing it on livestreams I'm impressed with the scale of the fight and I think that it's not going to get old any time soon. With an encounter on that scale it's too different every time to become stale. Also, with their bolstering system in PvP your server is not going to be gimped by not having the highest average team level and there are so many players involved that team compostions won't matter much either, so the only real advantages to be gained are strategic.
All in all it looks like a refreshingly new take on PvP, to the point that I might even enjoy it.

well from what it looks like though i thought it was another thing like how swtor did it
meaning, you can pvp 1-49 but its still better to get to 50 because it boosts your stats and not your actual skills and stuff.is it actually "i load up the game, roll a character.goto whatever zone i need to goto to do wvwvwv and start smashing people like im max level"or is it the same as how swtor did it
cuz thats one of the things i never really looked into very much but it sounded kinda like how bioware did it in swtor

regardless,i guess ill just leave this thread here now and not respond to it
my intention was to ask about the pvp in guild wars 2.not to create a flamewar of swtor vs guild wars 2
