For some reason I just can't get over this picture. It's just too awesome! Why don't the other ships have a little 'inside look' like this? And why is it in such a low resolution!
With this whole smuggler and ship reveal it's almost like you can 'feel' both the passion -and- pressure on the ones designing this. These drawings had to come from an extremely inspired, extremely driven person that thought: "This ship MUST match up against the Milennium Falcon".
Now I am a 100% Sith guy. But lately.. these reveals; the Consular (Designing the Light Side video), the Smuggler and the brutish Trooper have become -really- appealing to me aswell. That republic alt might not be so far away after all.
Anyhow, I decided this picture required a little more attention. Here it is. I sincerely hope the other ship reveals will come with one.
If you save the pic on the official site it should zoom in enough to see detail. I know I can read most of the text that way.
*edit* I love the pic though. It looks straight out of one of the Incredible Cross-Sections books. I hope all future ships have one of these types of pics as concept art, and maybe add one for the Vanguard/Defender and Fury in retrospect.
Yeah its neat to see the "floor plan" of the ships. It is quite amazing that these pictures are very architecturally accurate. I mean the blue prints are amazing and you can tell that it took tons of time to develop them. They nailed it by putting the Millenium Falcon and Ebon Hawk together.
It's much bigger than the Hawk and Falcon though. What amazes me is all those high ceilings in hallways and rooms. The Hawk and Falcon both had low ceilings that required Chewie to kneel to run around. These look tall enough to comfortably walk around with someone standing on your shoulders without knocking any heads. Maybe 10 feet/3m tall. The high ceilings remind me very much of the Serenity.
I can't read much of the red text, but my guess on that is the red text denotes collidable objects so to speak, solid objects that you can't walk through.
Absolutely right! I blew up the picture 200% and added some sharpening in PS, now I can read even more of it. Actually it denotes the back-areas to be "To be filled with engines".
I couldn't be bothered to type it all out, or decypher it, so I wrote down some observations.
[*]Captain's Quarters - Your crew gets to bulk together in one tiny room, while you get your own spacey room with your own bed. Not to mention it's far closer to the kitchen!
[*]Cargo bay - Comes with a cargo elevator! Noone said smuggling forbidden goods had to be hard labour, right?
[*]Escape pods - Who knows you might run into Carth! And, the access hatch to the escape pod has a different look from other doors, one telling you: "Use in case of grave emergency" sort of.
[*]The doors will 'slide' in a very star-trekky way. Uuhh.. niiice.
[*]There's -alot- of drawing of "things that are UNDER panels" - repair duties for the wookie, panels to smuggle cargo under (or people, dur)?
PS: I do realise I'm blowing one picture out of proportions, but I can't help it. It's just cool like that.
It's cool, I'm a nerd for the Incredible Cross-Sections books too, so seeing this kind of concept art is great. Really hoping all future ships' get a piece of concept art like this. It works both as a guide for the art team to build and also as an in-universe schematic. It makes me dream of a "SWTOR Incredible Cross-Sections" that shows all the ships' interiors, maybe even some key locations, as a combined Incredible Cross-Sections/Locations book.
5 is Lounge Furniture, which fits the pictures of the lounge showing Falcon-esque seats in that spot.
3 might says Sensors, can't make out the rest.
Whatever's in parentheses on 2 and 3 says the same thing, the gibberish looks similar in both.
Ya know now I'm wondering why DH isn't doing this kind of dissection of that concept art. But I guess that's what the forums are for. :P
The line of red text at the very bottom says something like "Most red labels are updatable".
Agree with AddisonX about the Captains' locker, would make sense, since it's in his room.
number 4 I think is Galaxy Display, juding by the other concept art, there's a blue hologram in the center of the lounge room.
Also, on the same piece of concept art, there is indeed what looks like a sensor display, similar to the one Han sits at in the Millennium Falcon (while Luke's lightsaber trianing in ANH).
Edit: Also, notice after 2, 3 and the Engine label it says (post release), or something similar, in brackets.
Edit2: Also, looking at the concept art and videos for the other two ships, the lounge area, by convention on all 3 ships, has a Dejarek table and chairs, a holoprojector (possibly galaxy map) in the middle, and some sort of large console.
Do you think Captain's Locker means that your bank will be stored on your ship? It would make sense.
On the other hand, I find it useful to have my personal bank and the guild bank in the same location. I could deal with them not being the same though. Maybe you could unlock a courier service or droid, that could work like the Argent Squire in WOW, which would be pretty fun.
