Hi all! This is an idea I had that I really wanted to share on the internet, so eventually it may actually reach Bioware, since I can't post on the offical suggestion box because I don't subscribe, only preferred player.
So my idea would be to improve the legacy system A LOT
1 - The family tree is just not enough Atm when we create a character he can only have either a mother or a father, he can only 2 branch relations as friend, lover or rival I am sure most you guys, just like me, just want / need more having a family tree that we can look at is cool, but doesn't really offer you much diversity, so my idea is: we select the first char who will be the origin of the tree then we could add branches pretty much like it is implemented one to each side as many sons as we want but, the first improvement, instead of having to select a father or a mother, you can have both as long as you put the father and mother in, put a relation between them (doesn't have to be lovers, there could have been a casual affair) and then you can select to be son / daughter of that relation, giving you a father and a mother, same applies for adoptions, you can have a father, a mother and be adopted by a different familly Also you can have as many friends, rivals, lovers, as you want, but only 2 (selected by you) will show on the tree
How to view all this in a tree, you don't, you select what is the first char to start the tree, the oldest one, to origin point, you add all the others using the relation you consider primary to why they are in the same family / legacy, then you right click on each character icon and you'll see their relation to the other characters
So this way you can view your family tree, but, your the first character can have a son, who has a wife, who then has a father, that happens to be rival from the first character and also has a mother... and so on.
2 - interaction with the legacy - Legacy Flashpoints There could be areas or NPCs that would trigger what I call - Legacy Flashpoints On this missions companions would be dismissed and replaced with other characters from our legacy controlled by the CPU The missions could have special requirements, such as a mission only allows Jedi Consulars, or one Knight and one Consular, or at least 2 Jedis, or 2 non force users, or a Jedi Knight and a Tropper, or a Jedi and a non Jedi... There should also be missions that put the republic side to side with empire, Sith and Jedi facing a common threat, or a Bounty Hunter and a Jedi, or a Tropper and a Sith... So many options... These would be single player missions
There could also be multiplayer version just for fun, since this would some times include republic and empire the missions would have to be set up with group finder
Focusing on single player - legacy the party size could include more than just 1 legacy companion, some missions would allow only a certain number, others could be more open / generic Each mission would always play the same, but the cutscenes / dialogues would change depending on the relation between characters For example a certain Legacy Flashpoint requires a republic side character and an empire side character, if they are father and son the dialogues would be different than if they are friends or rivals
3 - Legacy relation I would like meaning in the legacy relations between chars So we would be able to establish some modifiers to the relations for example: Char 1: Anakin Char 2: Luke relation: father / son does Anakin knows Luke is his son: Yes / No does Luke knows Anakin is his father: Yes / No Anakin feels towards Luke: Love / Hate / Pride / Shame Luke feels towards Anakin: Love / Hate / Pride / Shame
Then the dialogues in the Legacy Flashpoint would be different, depending on those modfiers you would have different choices on the dialogues with both your characters and there would be an affection meter between them your answers would affect the affection, to the point of changing how they feel towards each other so you could, for example, make the chars start as enemies and, later on, end up as friends the relation ratting would affect the CPU AI while you're not controlling the chars as well as criticals when both play together
if they both feel a positive emotion (Love / Pride) or a negative one (Hate / Shame) towards eachother, they can have either a "team father / son" relation; or a "rival father / son" relation a team relation would improve with positive affection a rival relation would improve with negative affection
so, for example, if you're a Jedi, teaming up against a biggest threat, with the Sith you hate the most, your relation is rivalary and, by making choices that displease eachother, the relation ratting increases
you can choose when to make great revelations such as "Luke, I am your father" you can replay the Legacy Flashpoints, the mission remains the same but the personal story withing your legacy continues you can make friends become rivals or lovers those changes would reflect on your family tree the relation modifiers would change according to the affection generated and choices made
about improving affections this would be related to character class and light/dark rank for example: A light II smuggler would like altruist choices, but a dark I smuggler would like greedy ones, a dark VI would actually like cruel choices, but not a dark I or II
4 - Closure So we would now have our legacy stories on going when we create the relation between 2 characters we could select that they met before or not when we play a new mission (or replay an old one) with the same 2 characters who have teamed up before, if the modifier about they have met before was set to no, it would have been changed so the second play through would have different dialogues the following times the same char team up can seem ver similar, they already met you make decisions to improve affection, if that relation is meant to remain a friendship it will stay the same, otherwise it can evolve, by gaining or losing affection points to a love relation or rivalary to change the relation there would have to be an option chosen for that, meaning there will be couples you don't want to exist eventually, if they are in a love relation it can lead to they "doing it" since it would have happened in order to have the sons or daughters also in your legacy even after a relation is at love or rival it can still change back by gaining or losing points so a sith and a Jedi can start as rivals, become friends or lovers, have a kid, get mad and become rivals again
There would be interesting story dialogues written for all these situations for parties with fathers, sons, daughters, mothers, sisters, brothers...
This would make players want to find out all these stories and make them happen with their chars and create more chars for that which is good to bioware since cartell coins are required for extra char slots
5 - benefits of "doing it" In the game there are several stages when the chars "go to bed" with NPCs the screen fades and they return I have some ideas to still make this game not so dry about the issue, while maintaining it very non sexual the 3D in this game, despite of being gorgeous, is obviously not equiped to allow a char to take a shirt off for example but during their dialogues they could move as if they were about to remove the shirt, then camera changes to the other char, who would say something, then back to yours who is now shirtless cutscene about kissing or hugging and getting on bed fade, with camera angles that wouldn't show anything dirty, mainly because the char models have underwear what prevent that anyway fade to black scene about getting up, again using the camera to show a char first shirtless, then other char says something, then dressing moving as if he just dressed it, moving his hands on the wrists to put sleeves confortable, for example after that we would be under an effect that would last like an hour, would be stuck with other effects / stims and would boost some stats according to the NPCs that we had done it with like a stim so when an NPC, like Lord Grathan's Wife tells you that you can come back any time, you'd actually be aloud to go there again have a dialogue that would have 2 or 3 variations and chose to do it again for that "stim" effect to help with heroics nearby, for example you'd be aloud to do that once a day for example and could not accumulate "sex stims" with other "sex stims" so if you were under one when you initiate activity with other NPC you'd only carry one, the latest "stim" also if you were under a relation with a companion like Vette for example, you may want to dismiss her, because this would drop the affection at a high rate, ending the present relation if you're in relation with your NPC companions you could talk to them to do it only after the last dialogue at anytime, under the same restrition line once a day, when inside the ship
6 - Tastes for everything I think over time we come across lots of gear and there are really tastes for everything someone may like the look a very week weapon or armour piece so I think every model should have an orange gear version also more Pants for Consulars and Inquisitors, it's ridiculous really...
7 - Companions customization so they are oppening the customization booth now what if you could also completely customize your companions?
Also this a star wars game with aliens and stuff why are we stuck to basic hair colors? Purple hair would be cool!
And those are all my suggestions really I love this game and all my suggestions are not negative critiques in anyway, just things that from my perspective would improve the game.
Aside from the atrociously large amount of data that would need to be stored and tracked for these ideas, the immense amount of storage required on your end for all of the possible cinematics and conversation trees, and the tens of thousands of manhours putting all of this together, there is also another problem.
What are you going to do with the new player that only has one character when it comes time for a 'legacy flashpoint' or other crossover event that you've scripted into the story? What happens when you hit a point where your scripting requires a Sith Warrior to interact with a Jedi Consular, and the player doesn't have a Consular? Or the player has both a Sage and Shadow, which is picked?
Don't get me wrong, I would have liked to have some story variety when I was leveling my 13 characters, but there is just too much to go into some of your ideas for them to ever be implemented. The ideas that might happen later on are having an orange shell for every armor model (through the cartel market) and the companion customizations (also with cartel coins). This leads me to the other problem. EA calls the shots, and they've got dollar signs covering their eyes when they look at the cartel market. If they can't sell it for real money, it's probably never going to happen. They'll put out just enough real content to keep from losing all of their customers to complete boredom and keep throwing more cash shop items at them.
About your 'benefits of doing it' part though, the game is rated what it is for a reason, and if they were to put anything more suggestive than a kiss and cheesy lines in their romance conversations they'd have to up the rating from T for teen to M for mature, losing their younger market to overprotective parents and losing their market entirely in some parts of the US where M rated games are illegal to purchase.
I do realize it wouldn't be an idea fast an easy to implement, just the diversity of the scripts would require a long while, but so does creating a new instance and story and there will always be upgrades like the recent "Rise of the Hutts", this could be perfectly be something that could be being done calmly in the background, the main point is give the legacy relations we build in our minds an in game purpose.
About the new player who only has one character, simply he could not access a certain "Legacy flashpoint" if he does not have the required classes, just the same way a Sith Warrior can't do a Smugglers class quests. "Legacy Flashpoints" would be like class quests, but less relevant to the story and more just for your entertainment, you would have to have the proper classes to play it. If the player has a Sage and a Shadow, for example, you get to pick the one you want, imagine the relation is, current char - Sith Warrior, needs a Jedi Consular to complete a certain "Legacy Flashpoint", the Shadow is his girlfriend, the Sage is his dad, game play (changing that the Sage is a Healer and Shadow is Tank) would be the same, but story sequences would differ. The point would be more create a story between our chars than the missions themselves.
Also about, EA calling the shots and they wanting money more than anything, this would be a great impulse for players to have at least on char each class, so they would have to be either subscribers or pref status, so EA would benefit from the idea. Personally I want 16 chars one each sub class just to try out, I know a Sentinel and a Marauder are the same, but I want both nevertheless, but that's just me, I have a friend who only plays his Assassin and cares about nothing else.
I understand that despite of still very "innocent" the visual contents I suggest could indeed change the ratting for the game, but at least the benefits part, a certain stim effect, that could be implemented, making al the flirtation worth something, or perhaps even permanent increase, such as a datacron, to both the player and the companion, something like plus 2 endurance, if the scene is not repeatable.
Thank you for the time you took to read what I wrote and to write your reply :)
Another idea I would like to see implemented would be some sort of min games available on the website with either Java or flash or HTML5 what would grant rewards in game such as crafting materials, just so we could do something game related when using a computer that does not have or can not have the game installed.
I have spent countless hours of wasting school time thinking about this. Droids as a race. Playable by Trooper, Smuggler, Imperial angent and of course bounty hunter. Droid armor already exists, with companions, and customization would be wicked. Their starting planet could be Raxus Prime, which is from the star wars forced unleashed series i believe.
Next i believe like the OP, some ammendments should be made to the legacy system. For example, you should be able to add your friends to your family tree. I know there is already an ally slot, but that is for your account.
Finally, some mini games, as MrGore said. The first thing that should be done is Pazaak, next you should be able to enter in speeder races(maybe pod races?), watch them to cheer on your racer, or place bets. Maybe a rancor fight? or spectate huttball?
