I'm one of the many who came, saw, conquered,..then got bored, then got tired of Ilum promises,...and then quit.
I play Warhammer Online still, planetside 2, but I have friends who have gone back to SWTOR and I don't know why. Have they added any good PvP patches? The last patch where I quit was when they kept delaying rated battlegrounds and it was taking for forever to come out.
I honestly don't want to just come back for battlegrounds so I'm just asking if they've done anything else. Back in the day ilum was amazing, there was huge fighting despite the lag, and then they broke it and capped the zone, and everyone stopped playing. I tried to do more ganking in open world pvp but with people being able to take warzone pops while in combat, and ducking into quest instances while in combat was just terribly annoying. Not to mention people had pets that either cc'd or snared you long enough so they could run away. The whole experience was just miserable and the game was never meant to for people like me. So, with all that potential and still a development team, I ask, have they done anything to bring old pvpers like me back? I'm hoping for a yes. This isn't a rant.
BTW, I see they added server forums. Where the heck was that on release? I'm starting to remember how out of touch Bioware was with realm vs. realm, and I'm already talking myself into forgetting checking this thread for replies. But,..this is Darth Hater, and this was going to be the place all of us elitist jerks were going to theorycraft and talk about pvp, so I'm just hoping someone can sympathize with me and give me an honest update on the game's progress. I'm genuinely curious on how bad the failing continued, or if they actually listened to the MMO PVP community.
Ranked WZs are still in the exhibition season almost 2 years from launch. PVP has been broken up into 3 tiers with the level cap increase; 10-29, 30-54, and 55. They have a reoccurring Gree World Event in a new section of Ilum that has a PVP flagged area with 2 PVP dailies to run (and the other event dailies can be run and are easier but you risk getting ganked). They are up to 5 Warzone types now. In patch 2.4 coming on October I think it is, they are bringing in 4 vs 4 PVP which should be cool. Otherwise it's the same old same old.
Compare EQN, or any pvp focus MMO and swtor would be as if RPing pvp in the open world with costumes with lightsabers/guns and imaginary reasons and rewards for pvp.
For some that is enough with a Star wars skin/story/pve focus with raids/gear grind/WoW style combat... for others, not so much.
I do not like to do gear grinds, so swtor really does feel draining with alts not being rewarded well enough at end game ( same end game with the same long gear grind). So, for me, the only reason to play is for the story atm. Ill be back for that... or actual pvp updates like you are looking for.
And pvp updates which are good enough can vary person to person. Since they do have 'events' and when they are in the open world, it makes the game have pve content that also has pvp. This can be fun, but keep in mind, all the gear grind that has to be done to successfully pvp 1vs1, unless you can form groups and gear does not matter... but that kind of takes away from the whole MMO, and achievement... which is unfortunate that open world pvp does not progress the characters...
A long reply... but since you have friends playing... you might want to look at what strengths there are in the game, and join every once in a while to have fun in pvp, or exp weekends to get a lvl 55. Maybe in the future, open world pvp will get pvp gear. That would be nice... and of course no gear grinds for alts... or a lot less of it.
