alot of slows, stuns, lots of burst dps and has some kind of damage reduction shield type thing

basically,if you've ever played world of warcraft.a frost mage is what im talkin about, was bored thinkin today and i never really play caster/ranged dps classes in mmorpgs so i figured what the hell might as well try one out

i was originally gonna make a scoundrel/operative but i changed my mind.i thought i heard someone tell me that  a merc bounty hunter with 100 percent pyro tree was what i was talkin about but with casters/ranged dps in star wars tor can you move and cast at the same time, because thats one of the things i didnt like about casters and ranged dps in the other mmo i played

i do think i remember hearing that ranged dps/casters were easier to play though

Pretty much all have slows/stuns, although Opertive is pretty good at them.

    arent operatives melee though?

or can you play them ranged, that was like.the melee class i was plannin on goin(assuming i end up going empire side,i might go republic)but i was just thinkin today cuz i never really play caster/ranged dps

although i guess the lethality tree is kinda ranged.i was thinkin about askin this when i got the game and could post on the official forums but i dont know, normally people frown upon talking about other mmorpgs on there message board

so none of the classes really play like one? i mean i dont know if youve played world of warcraft but thats kinda what i was lookin for playstyle wise as far as caster/ranged dps

i know operative/scoundrels were like the class i was lookin at as far as making but was justw ondering cuz i was thinkin ive never really played caster or ranged dps

    Sith sorceror/ Jedi Sage.

Not sure what these other people are talking about as this game is 90% wow.

From what I can tell none of the ranged ACs have the same amount of CC and burst as a frost mage.

imho, a trooper/bh is going to come closer then a sorc/sage.

I think the sorc/sage has better burst, but the trooper/bh has better cc.

The game isn't WoW, but you can make comparisons between the classes. Sage healing is a lot like disc priest. Trooper healing is similar to Shaman healing. etc.

you got it the wrong way round. Mercs have the best burst in the game, they play a LOT like ele shamans. Sorcerors have the most cc and utility in teh game, its about as close as u will get to a frost mage

I got a 12k archiev points mage i played since Classic, my sub ran out last week and i don't plan to resub. Nevertheless im pretty sure i know what a frost mage is and im telling you - you wont find such a playstyle. The closest you can find to it is probably a EleShaman/SPriest with Sage/Sorcerer

achievement points don't prove you know how to play a certain class in any game.  Just proves you put a lot of time into the game.

so tele sage/madness spec sorc would be what im lookin for?,or would balance sage be better.i know that sever force skill sounds kinda like that deep freeze skill frost mages get

i know the pvp videos ive watched of sages looked pretty fun but ive heard that sorcerers were more like ele shaman/warlocks.im kinda thinkin now about makin a agent/scoundrel though.but i dont know,if you can move while casting with a madness sorc/tele sage i might end up makin one of those instead

i know this is like almost a week old but i might end up gettin star wars the old republic this week so thats why i posted

Arena titles and raiding hardmodes archievs pretty much require you to l2p, you should try those.

Operatives/Scoundrels are melee classes with a healing tree. You will want either a Commando/Merc or a Sage/Sorc. Again, this isn't WoW and gameplay works differently.

i know it isnt wow,but some parts like classes look like they have similarities

but whatever, achievement points mean nothing and the majority of achievements are worthless anyway so i guess ill talk to someone else in terms of class playstyles

Sorceror/Sage is the most like an archetypal "caster" that you'll find here.

Slows?  Check.  Stuns?  Check.  Shield effects?  Check.

As for sorceror vs. sage, they are literally the same class, minus different names and graphics for their abilities.  The only exception being the Sage's Project vs. Sorceror's Shock; the Sorceror version impacts the target instantly, while the Sage "equivalent" has some form of travel time, I believe.

Sorceror/Sage healing is parts WoW priest and shaman, if you're curious about that side of the coin (healing, the other being dps).
