I was watching ROTJ...there is some disturbing implications! In the one dancing scene that green slave girl gets terrified and tries to escape... she's even so scared she somehow forgets she's standing on a trap door! But regardless of her obvious gaffe, Jabba seems to be rather... "excited" - are we to believe that that girl had doubled as Jabba's personal prostitute or something? As gross as that would be, I guess I can see why she had to go - a crime lord like Jabba couldn't be disrespected like that in front of everyone.
The EU has established that among Hutts, Jabba's deep interest in humanoid slavegirls was seen as perverse. So he's definitely a creeper in-universe too.
They're all the rage. We don't know that Nem'ro actually takes an interest in them. They may for Nem'ro's clients since most of them are near-human. You serve what your clients want to put them more at ease. You aren't going to make your near-human clients feel more comfortable if all your slavegirls are Gammorreans.
I agree - just because other hutts HAVE slaves doesn't really matter - what matters is what you DO with them. Many people/aliens probably have them as status symbols or whatever.
To have a slave FLIP OUT like Jabba's did and try to get away from him (when there's no chance of it) seems to imply that there was something really sexual or gross between them, or else she had done something wrong and knew she was going to get killed for it.
One of the EU books actually details what happened with Oola. It was Tales from Jabba's Palace. I used to have all the Tales books, they were pretty good.
Originally what had happened is she went willingly to dance for Jabba since she was misinformed that it was a way to live in luxury and get famous. To copy from Wookiepedia:
" However, upon arrival, Oola is dismayed to discover that Tatooine is a horridly hot and desert planet, a discovery alleviated only by her dreams of lush luxury at Jabba's palace. Fortuna leaves the two dancers momentarily, during which absence they encounter Luke Skywalker, who warns them against serving Jabba. Oola's friend flees with Skywalker, but Oola herself remains, jealously thinking she can thus ensure Jabba's patronage for herself alone. However, once at the palace, Oola learns how mistaken she is. Fortunately for her, hope is renewed when she learns from C-3PO that Luke Skywalker is planning a rescue for another prisoner at the palace. Heartened anew, Oola accepts Jabba's demand for her to dance, vowing to herself that this shall be her greatest dance yet."
