That's all well and good until the marketing basically decide that make some more money selling it in a MT shop.
Exclusivity is being used to induce people to buy early, they're not obliged in making the early adopters feel like special unique snowflakes forever.
Bioware already has a history of selling pre-order bonuses through their cash shop, why should TOR be any different.

I stand by my statement. Nearly all of the pre-order bonuses from Star Trek Online that were worth having are for sale in the Microtransaction store and the game is only a year-and-a-half old.Posted in: Editorial
The marketing guys have figured out your can sell effectively nothing for something. Unlike coffee mugs, you don't ever have to worry about running out of inventory. All of the heavy lifting, codewise, is in place so why not sell it.

The fun part is you can use material from any sport. Some see football, rugby, soccer, but you could even use basketball or hockey.Posted in: SWTOR News

Darth Malgus: Pitiful Huttball players of the Republic, I am Darth "Bubblegum" Malgus, commander of the Sith Invasion Fleet. For generations, your puny Republic has lived in peace while we have waited. But now, for no reason, we challenge you to defend your honor on the Huttball court. Will no one meet our challenge? Have none of you pathetic Jedi GAME?
Random republic citizen: What happens if we lose?
Darth "Bubblegum" Malgus: NOTHING! There is nothing at stake and no threat, beyond the shame of defeat!

The original concept of Bases in CoH was PVP. However CoH PVP had problems and base raids were even worse. So the devs said "screw it" and let everyone go nuts with the base designer.Posted in: SWTOR News
It's similar to STO and walking around your starship. There's no bank, market, or mail access on your ship in STO so you have to go to one of the social hubs.

I never got the whole "Be an ass to the opposite faction bit", in City of Heroes the only time you saw that was in PVP areas. Since the PVP in City of Heroes wasn't that good, it wasn't something you ran into a lot. Granted, the endgame is "Hero teamup with Villain" and you can also faction switch. They also gave you the option to opt-in to cross-faction chat in PVP zones.Posted in: SWTOR News
I suppose it's different with games with larger playerbases and more mainstream appeal.
