  • posted a message on 10% possibilty of reverse engineering a schematic

Well, that's probability for you. The reverse engineering odds are determined using massive sample sizes. As much as it doesn't feel like it, 22 attempts is not unbelievable for 1 out of 10 odds. If I did my math right, there's something close to a 10% chance of the results you got. While unlikely, it's not completely remarkable. If you were end up under 5%, most statisticians would probably say you're getting hosed. I think that happens around 29 attempts.

Then again, I'm not a statistician, I'm a law student. So it's more likely that I'm completely ignorant than I am correct. But there I go talking likelihood again...

((To check my math- (.9)^22 is .0985 = 9.8% odds of happening))

Flashpoints tell a story. I also wasn't convinced of it until I got to my 30s and ran Taral V and Maelstrom Prison. If you've run those fp and still don't think there's an over-arching story, you're missing something.

So I'm on the same path with one of my characters.

For one, I would suggest that you be sure to pick up the dailies/weeklies. Two, I would mix in an occasional flashpoint or otherwise to ensure that your gear stays up-to-date (unless it's all crafted, as I assume it is). Finally, I would do everything you can to win and get medals. This last point sounds obvious, but it clearly has an impact on your xp from PvP. So learn strategies, play with friends, and become a killing machine.

Beyond that, I don't think there is a way to boost experience any further. If so, I'd love to know as well because, as I mentioned above, I also have an alt leveling purely through PvP. It's been a bit of a slog (currently level 16). I've found myself logging onto this character only to complete dailies and then playing another alt. I am considering doing space missions on this toon as well just to fill in the time and gain extra xp.

  • posted a message on Pay to Win? The Cartel Market. Discuss.

So I read your review, and I came to the conclusion that Pay2Win doesn't bother me at all. Sure, someone can make up for hours grinding through content with a few Cartel purchases. That's fine with me. If time is money, what's the difference?

Then again, I don't play SWTOR to have the best gear or the coolest mount. I play because I enjoy the process of getting with a group and taking down a common enemy in a Star Wars world. In fact, if people want to spend their money on Cartel items, I encourage it. It makes the player happy, it ensures a better-funded and better-geared community.

The only major downside that I could see from Pay2Win is when buying Cartel items becomes the expectation when playing with others. At this point, everything on Cartel that I have ever needed can otherwise be acquired. If I am willing to put in the time and someone puts in the money, what's the difference?

So I've been lurking on this site since launch. I'm not really the kind of person that signs up for things. But I must say, I was pretty bummed when this site looked like it was down for the count. Additionally, I was pretty stoked when I saw that it was back.

Keep up the good work Vox. It's nice to have DH back online.

I have a love/hate relationship with rep. When I quit the game back in June, I did so because I don't have the time for Ops and I ran out of level 50 content. With that in mind, the idea of reputation sounds great. It encourages post-50 activity and it ensures that there are others like me who pop back into the game to earn it (which is good for the community and thus good for me as a member of the community).

However, my previous experience with reputation (in WoW), left me frustrated and anxious. I am a pretty casual player (maybe login 2-4 a week with 3-4 hours of gameplay per session), and even I tend to get bored grinding the same missions repeatedly.

Just spitballing, but it would be really cool if reputation could be earned in a variety of ways and for a variety of purposes. For example, crafting items (or turning in mats) to a rep vendor could yield gear/recipes. Or running PvP in Alderaan, for example, could earn Alderaan rep. This would be a neat way to encourage players to login without forcing them to grind the same missions everyday. Or, and this may be my favorite idea, earning rep granted access to special areas. It would be cool to me (as I am on an RP server) if reputation opened up a cantina in Tatooine that included a unique layout, a cantina vendor with unique social items, and such.

In all, I feel like reputation is another one of those opportunities Bioware has to create something special. While I always keep my hopes low (I'm not naive), I seriously would enjoy Bioware thinking outside the box on this one.

...oh, and let us sit in motherfracking chairs.
