Hey folks! We've got a preview of the upcoming digital expansion "Galactic Starfighter" for you today. I've been extended access to the beta as well, so by the end of the weekend I'll have some gameplay footage up for you to see. For now, we've got screenshots, a trailer, and some concept art. For the full story, hit the jump.
On November 5th, all game servers will be unavailable while we perform maintenance. The In-Game Cartel Coin Purchase feature will be implemented during this downtime, and there will not be a new patch to download. Details are as follows:
With the Summer of SWTOR officially behind us, and some big announcements about our upcoming free Digital Expansion now released, I wanted to just share in one place a summary of the things we are working on for you in the months ahead. Some of this is a recap of information we have already released, but there are some new pieces here too!
First up is Game Update 2.4.2, which is currently targeted for launch on October 29th. This biweekly update contains the usual bug fixes and minor tweaks, but it is notable for two very important features: the start of Ranked PvP Season One, and the launch of web-based Ranked PvP Leaderboards!
Have you ever been frustrated trying to find an available name when making a new character? We currently have many, many millions of character names across all the servers, some of which are no longer in use, and as has been frequently noted here on the forums it is difficult to find any good names. We want to flag some 36% of those characters for rename, many of which were created in the early days after launch, and free up a lot of name options for our current players. Get ready to snag that name you always wanted! Exact details are forthcoming, but here’s what you need to know now: Current Subscribers will not have any characters renamed, regardless of activity or level on that character. Period. Even on inactive accounts, the bulk of characters renamed will be under level 10, and no character level 30 or higher will be renamed. November 12th is our current target date for this.
Speaking of November 12th, that will be the start of the next Bounty Contract Week, which we’ll continue to have every month. In other event news the mysterious Gree Starship will be returning in December. As you’ve seen, we continue to update and improve these events and add new Galactic Reputation rewards.
As Thanksgiving Season approaches, you are at the top of our list of things we are thankful for. We receive a lot of support from you, the players, and it’s really because of you that we are able to continue development on this game we love so much. We’d like to show a tiny measure of that thanks with a Double XP weekend starting November 27th and continuing through Thanksgiving Weekend until December 2nd.
The no-longer-super-secret space project has been revealed at last! We are working hard to bring you the Galactic Starfighter™ free Digital Expansion in February, but on December 3rd we are planning to open it up to Subscribers with Game Update 2.5: Galactic Starfighter Subscriber Early Access. Also in Game Update 2.5 we’ll have continued class balance updates and an all new PvP Warzone Arena, the Makeb Mesa Arena.
We will have individual blogs and updates on each and every one of the above items, stay tuned to SWTOR.com and these forums for updates! This isn’t an exhaustive list, and we are also working on some (very exciting) longer term stuff and some shorter term surprises we aren’t ready to cough up just yet. As always the dates listed above are the dates the teams are shooting for, and though we are working very hard and feel like we can hit them there is always a chance something will have to slip if it’s not ready. I’ll let you know as soon as we know if that happens.
We here at BioWare would like to say thank you for your continued support. I was going to say ‘keep your feedback coming’, but I don’t think you need the encouragement - you’re a vocal lot! But we love to hear it, and we wouldn’t rather have any other community than you. See you in game!

I wanted to give everyone a heads up about the Cassus Fett's Armor coming out in the Pursuer's Bounty Pack on Thursday and an issue relating to Collections. There are multiple pieces to the Cassus Fett set, one of which is the belt. When the pack goes live on Thursday, the belt will not be required to complete the set in your Collections. (This is a bug, keep reading!)
The belt not being required for Collections will be fixed in Game Update 2.4 on October 1st. What this means is this: Between Thursday 9/26 and Tuesday 10/1, you can complete the Collection of Cassus Fett's armor without the belt. If you do not complete the Collection by 10/1, the belt will now be required to do so. Note that if you complete the Collection by 10/1, after 2.4 hits if you pull the Collected set down from Collections, it will now correctly have the belt. Basically if you have interest in collecting the set, try to do it before Tuesday! Our bug will make it one step easier for you Hopefully that makes sense! Let me know if you have any questions. It is still intended that 2.4 will hit on 10/1, the dates above will move if the release date for 2.4 changes.
Just a quick update on the answers for Shadow and Mercenary. The Combat Team is hard at work on the changes coming for 2.5 so your answers will be coming a bit later this week. Courtney will be the one posting your top 3. I will be out of town for a couple of days so you wont see my name lightin' up the devtracker. Play nice while I'm gone.
In a job listing shared with us by community member captain_tisa, it appears that BioWare are looking to hire some folks to test out "exciting new PvP experiences coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic."
A link to the job posting can be found here; I mostly wanted to pass this along as it's a hint that perhaps the SSSP is that much closer to becoming reality, or perhaps it's something else entirely. Also, if you think you've got a particular skill set that they might find useful, hit 'em up and see what happens.
While we're at it, I wanted to pass along some of the more interesting images to emerge from SSSP datamining efforts. Again, credit for passing along these links to discovered information goes to captain_tisa, with credit for original discovery going to their respective owners.
It looks like 2.3.2 will be live on the 4th, below are some highlights:
New Vehicle! The Desler Nomad is a new rare drop from the final boss of all level 55 Hard Mode Flashpoints.
New Feature! Players can now purchase Cartel Coins in-game through the "Add Coins" interface within the Cartel Market. (details under Cartel Market)
Vendor Update! Emergency Medical Table and Mood: Outraged have been added to the Bounty Supply Company Vendor. Each item is bind on pickup and available for 1 credit to all players, regardless of Bounty Supply Company Reputation rank.
On September 4th, all game servers, SWTOR.com, and the launcher will be unavailable as we perform scheduled maintenance. Game Update 2.3.2 will be implemented during this downtime. Details are as follows:
Hey folks, here are the latest patch notes for Game Update 2.4 on the PTS. I still have information coming ASAP for the new area as soon as my client decides to patch 2.4 instead of the dreaded "stuck on 2.3.1" problem. In the meantime, hit the jump for the patch notes and a list of known issues.
Today we have some patch notes for Game Update 2.4 that have been updated. Previously only Warzone Arenas were available, but today players can check out a new story area, Oricon, featuring 2 new Operations, as well as a Level 55 story chain. I'll have a first look up as soon as I'm able; in the meantime, hit the jump for the updated patch notes, as well as for a few other bits of news.
Earlier today we were provided with another series in the continuing Q&A session for each advanced class; this time the focus was on Vanguard and Sorcerer. Three questions were picked by the community and the developers have responded as best they can. Hit the jump for the full story.
