    Flashpoints are optional.

I tried Esseles once and even skipping the conversations it took more than two hours.  By that time two partners had dropped out and there were two of us left.   We made it to the last boss and were wiped out fast.  Tried three more times and then gave up and abandoned the quest.

Since then I have not tried another one and have been very happy about it.

My $400 laptop runs SWTOR fine at 1366 X 768 at about 18 unique frames per second. Desktops generally cost less than laptops so most $1000 desktop machines will be blazing fast. There are even some "alien" made laptops at that price that are amazing.  A student of mine had one and I was very impressed with it.

  • posted a message on Healer Guide?

My character is a L29 Sage-Balanced that can heal.  This works very well at certain times but can become impossible in group that CCs a lot because of the CC-Healer threat problem.  I have noticed that grouping with people that play other MMOs results in a lot of CC and constantly dead healers.  In SWTOR healing generates global threat and entries in every mob's threat table.  Since CCed mobs do not have much damage their table only contains healers and when they break they often jump to the healer, stun or slow them, and then melee them to death.  Then the whole group dies in painful horrible ways.

This is not a bad thing since CC would be too powerful otherwise but it does make it hard to play a healer in a group that likes to use Crowd Control abilities.

  • posted a message on These F2P limitations affect even subscribers and preferred players.

I am a freeper and can receive credits and items just fine but I cannot send any.  This means that all subscribers have been blocked from receiving mail from a whole lot of f2p people but we can all receive mail from everyone.  It is odd that more people have not noticed this.

...there is no aspect of the game that you cannot participate in in some way shape or form.

That may be true in a way, Remlish, but I ran into a restriction that impacts subscribers more than f2p players.  I'm a freeper and a subscriber friend sent me mail with a couple of items and some credits attached.  All arrived fine but when I went to compose a note of thanks the system blocked it.  I wasn't until he was online that I could whisper thanks and tell him I was unable to mail out.  Who is more affected by this mailing restriction, me who received the items and credits without difficulty, or the subscriber that could not receive the note of thanks he deserved?

As far as revenue goes it should be remembered that for more than half a century radio and television were "free" to use.  Of course it was not free but sponsored and those freepers often represented huge advertising revenue.  If EA can find some sponsors and enough freepers to view the ads they might just be able to keep SWTOR running no matter how few subbers they have.   Without the extra viewers though,  let us just say, it is unwise for anyone to subscribe too far ahead.

My machine with AMD video had the same problem and I fixed it by downloading the Beta driver from their site.  One warning though, their installer will automatically install the new driver over the old one but their support database recommends uninstalling the old one first.  It is odd that the installer does not 'know' that.  It worked out that I had to update my sound driver too.

    Which class are you playing?....

My class is Jedi-Consular-Sage-Balanced.  The character type is common but my combat tactics are virtually unique.  In order to confuse the enemy I often charge in the converse direction with my lightsaber flailing menacingly through the air.  At the same time I emit my fearsome battle cry, "Ayiee!", while moving as fast as possible.  The screaming  confuses the enemy still further.  With skillful application of this method it is possible to confuse more than a dozen opponents at the same time.

Few people, real or virtual, can ever forget witnessing one of these charges and If you see anyone using these tactics it will probably be me.

Well, i chose Archaeology partly for the bonus and partly because I have no idea when i will find additional companions.  Apparently the companion with +2 critial in Displomacy isn't available until around player level 37,  That is 26 levels from where I am now.

Thanks for pointers, they helped a great deal in making the decision.
