  • Character Creation Walkthrough

    With the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic right around the corner, our video content is in the process of ramping up. As you may have seen already, we conducted streams of end-game flashpoints, operations, warzones and more over the last couple of weeks. As part of this, video content will make its way to our Youtube account and to the front page quickly in the coming days. In one of our pieces, we walk players through the character creation process and give a detailed look at the various options players will have on launch day. With testing servers now down, this may be the last chance for players to decide on character creation options.

  • Lasting Decisions in an Everlasting World

    When BioWare first announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, they released a video explaining the collaboration between LucasArts and BioWare as well as some of the key features of the game. One of these features was the lack of a save button. Traditionally in BioWare games, players could see the result of their choices in-game and then load up a prior save to see what happens when they make a different choice. However, in Star Wars: The Old Republic, there is no save button; the decisions you make are the decisions you live with. As more information about the game comes to the surface, the key feature of making decisions that last seems to have fallen by the wayside.

  • Constructive Criticism 2.0

    It has been a while since we have had a constructive criticism post going, so it is time to have one again. Like the previous one, this is where you state your concerns as well as a way to help fix them. This can be directed towards Bioware, or darthhater.com. As long as what you say is a genuine concern and why it is it is fair game. Just remember comments like "Topic X is stupid," won't cut it, go with "Topic X could be improved by adding Y." Remember to be nice and if talking about the game try to go with confirmed facts. (The micro transaction thing is one of those topics that has been talked to death with little confirmation on any level) If you have no complaints just ask a question and I will try to answer it.

  • Tutorial

    Its time to roll your first character. Perhaps you rush through to get to the game and save your name. Perhaps you want to take a looong time to customize your character to make it yours. After you finish the design you try your list of names you want to use to see what hasn't been taken yet. Now that all the hard work is done you load the opening sequence and BAM Your in the game.

    Now that your in you look around at the wonderful scene and realize you don't know what to do. Time to find the tutorial. This is one thing I am wondering about Star Wars: The Old Republic, how will they break you in? Will we be stuck in a space station like in SWG or breaking out of prison like CoH/CoV in an instanced zone only those in the tutorial stage are able to be in? Will we have the WoW model where you're in a zone that is part of the world, but you are safe from MOST of the dangers? Or will it be a different way?

    I would like the tutorial to be like many games, where it is COMPLETELY separate from the game. You aren't playing your character in this and you may not even need to be online. Think of it as the KotOR II tutorial where you are the robot and need to fix up the ship. You learn the basic gameplay mechanics without going into class specifics. It also helps you out if it is your FIRST time playing the game. After you play it, or even if you haven't you have the option of skipping the tutorial. I feel this is the most important part since it allows people that reroll to not have to go through the "Push 1 to attack. Good, now push W to walk to the circle." However they implement the tutorial I want to be able to skip it when I reroll, and not be punished for it. Much of the time it is part of your story, or you get much more experience than those that skip it. If it is part of a story, go with a prelude that doesn't make much of a difference other than learning the game.

    Anywho. I typed way too much on the subject. Time to tell me your ideas for a tutorial, or past experiences with tutorials.
