  • Codex Guide: Korriban

    In our last guide we took a look at Codex entries on Tython, the ancestral home of the Jedi and current seat of the Jedi Council. This time around we'll turn our gaze on Korriban, host to the Sith Academy and homeworld of the Sith Pureblood. Korriban's dusty landscape provides backdrop to a number of tombs containing powerful Sith lords, three of which players have the chance to explore as a young Warrior or Inquisitor.   • Codex Guide: Tython

    The in-game Codex entries are a novel and interesting way to gain a fair amount of experience for a character, as well as to learn a great deal more about the worlds, people, creatures and places in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Beginning this week, DarthHater will be offering a deeper, planet-by-planet look into the Codex series to provide current guides for unlocking each of the codices within SWTOR. We begin on Tython, the most recent Jedi homeworld and a planet with a rich and rather complicated history as it pertains to the Force. Next time we’ll take a closer look at Korriban, home of the Sith Empire and a trove of many entries concerning the darker aspects of the Force. Read on after the jump for a complete walkthrough.

  • Friday Update: Codex Developer Blog



    This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is a developer blog from Principal Lead Systems Designer Damion Schubert on the Codex System. The long discussed Codex System is one we here unanimously were pleased to discover back at Jedi Immersion Day. Damion Schubert gives an in-depth look how the Codex System in the developer blog for those looking to learn more about this intriguing lore based system. He explains how the Codex System evolved based on a combination of the codex seen in Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and talks about its use in targeting explorers based on Richard Bartle's categorization of players. Schubert also dives into Datacrons and their integration within the Codex System. As he explains it, Datacrons expand the Codex System by giving players a challenge in either awareness or dexterity. The Codex System will let players track their progress and help them discover more secrets within the galaxy.

    On a side note, two of the images feature a tab that says "Raid Lockouts" pointing to lockout periods for raids as well as the first in-game showing of the word 'Raid'. The images also show the "Tomb of Naga Sadow" which we speculated was seen in a prior concept art image. The images also reference Tulak Hord who, during Knights of the Old Republic 2, Kreia mentions as a "ancient Dark Lord from the first Sith Empire" and a "lightsaber master." Aurenmalo in the comments section points out that this is the first official in-game proof of a Rattataki Inquisitor shown in image three of our Media Gallery.   • Jedi Immersion Day: General Information Learned

    Carefully examining and dissecting content for Star Wars: The Old Republic is the keystone of our work at Darth Hater. This meticulous approach is seen throughout our articles, but it becomes even more pronounced when we are actually playing the game. At both E3 and PAX this year we examined many of the nuts and bolts of SWTOR, but there is always more to find. The following is our list of new general notes from our multiple hours of gameplay at last month's Jedi Immersion Day.



    Update: A correction was made regarding our notes about Multiplayer Dialog Party Chat after notification from Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller.

    Party chat is in fact available during multiplayer dialog (or any dialog), so you can coordinate with your group on what choices to pick. This is an MMO after all, so even during cutscenes and dialogs you will retain the ability to communicate in chat.
