  • Scheduled Maintenance: May 30th, 2012

    Courtney Woods posted an update for next week's scheduled maintenance occuring on Wednesday, May 30th instead of the normal maintenance window due to Memorial Day holiday.

  • Scheduled Maintenance: May 8

    This week’s scheduled maintenance will occur on Tuesday, May 8 from 2AM CDT until 6AM CDT. Star Wars: The Old Republic servers will be down during this period and when they come back up, players may have to download a patch.

    Courtney WoodsHello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for four hours on Tuesday, May 8th , 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8 AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended.

  • Scheduled Maintenance: March 20th, 2012

    Next week’s scheduled maintenance is on Tuesday, March 20. Star Wars: The Old Republic servers will be down as BioWare conducts their scheduled maintenance.

    Courtney WoodsHello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for five hours on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/7AM GMT/8AM CET/7PM AEDT) until 7AM CDT (5AM PDT/8AM EDT/12PM GMT/1PM CET/12AM AEDT). All game servers will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than five hours, but could be extended.

    For our new players, this weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download. After the maintenance, please login via the launcher to download the latest patch. If your launcher was open during the maintenance, you must close and reopen it for a fresh login.

    Date: Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

    Time: 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/7AM GMT/8AM CET/7PM AEDT) until 7AM CDT (5AM PDT/8AM EDT/12PM GMT/1PM CET/12AM AEDT)

  • Friday Update: Beta Test Weekend Announced, Dreamhack Details, Choose Your Side Video

    This week's Friday Update brings Beta Testing Weekends to everyone and details on what BioWare is bringing to Dreamhack. BioWare announced that anyone who has signed up for game testing prior to today, November 11, will receive a beta invite in the next coming weeks as they prepare to stress test the servers for the global launch of the game on December 20. If you haven't signed up for Game Testing yet, you'll be able to get in through promotions from sites like IGN, ZAM, and our friends at Curse.

    How can you take part in this coming Beta Test Weekend? Well, for starters we are happy to announce that anyone who has signed up for our Game Testing Program prior to today, November 11th, will get invited! Invites will be sent in the coming weeks.

    For people who haven't signed up for our Game Testing Program, you can also get into the Beta Stress Test Weekend through a series of promotions. Be sure to check out the following websites for your chance to grab a Beta Test Weekend Code.

  • Friday Update: Warzones



    This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update focuses on Warzones - instanced PvP zones where teams of eight can square off against each other in combat. BioWare updated the Warzones page of the Game Systems section of the site with new information, screenshots and videos. BioWare also revealed the Voidstar Warzone, showing off the trailer from New York Comic Con.

  • Friday Update: Studio Insider, Eurogamer, Community Q&A

    Today's Friday Update features a Studio Insider on combat animation. Principal Lead Animator Mark How discusses the process of creating combat animations, from conception to finished product. He explains what it is like to recreate epic battles between Jedi and Sith, and how Smugglers and Imperial Agents utilize complex tactical attacks to hold their own against opponents from the safety of cover.

    Also featured in this week's update is the Community Q&A. This month, Lead PvP Designer Gabe Ametangelo answers questions about player versus player combat, with topics ranging from arena implementation to post-launch dual specializations.

    The topic for next month's Q&A is Socialization in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Production Coordinator Courtney Woods posted a new Community Q&A thread, where members of the community can sound off for a chance to have their questions answered in a future Studio Insider.

    Lastly, BioWare will attend EuroGamer Expo in London next weekend. You can read about their upcoming show here. Darth Hater will be there in full force so expect content coming from us straight from the event.

  • Friday Update: Smuggler Character Progression, Developer Blog, and PAX Prime 2011 Highlights



    This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is three-fold. First we have a progression video for the Smuggler, stuffed with all the violence and lopsided smiles we can handle. Then there is a developer blog from on The Old Republic's expanded universe told in the pages of several books and comics. Lastly, a PAX highlights video is available for anyone who couldn't attend the event.

    The Smuggler progression video follows the same formula as its predecessors, and highlights the different combat paths a Smuggler can take. Whether the Scoundrel or the Gunslinger is your Advanced Class of choice, you will have a variety of looks and skills to choose from, and it includes a particular homage to everyone's favorite archaeological adventurer.

    We were also treated to a new Developer Blog by Senior Writer Alexander Freed. In this installation, he focuses on the expanded universe of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Freed has some key insights on what goes into developing these expanded stories from his first-hand experience of writing two tie-in comics (Blood of the Empire and The Lost Suns). He also shares what fans can expect from future adventures set in this era.

    The first thing that any potential tie-in to Star Wars and The Old Republic should do is answer a series of questions: What does this story contribute to mythology of The Old Republic? What does a reader get from this story that changes the way he or she experiences the game? Does it give the reader a new perspective on a character? Does it explain a mystery that isnt resolved in the game? Does it explore the setting and the timeline in new depth?

    Finally, we are treated to a video montage that highlights the PAX Prime event from two weeks ago.

    But wait...there's more! A working dissection of the smuggler progression video is now available in the media gallery below. As with all dissections, we will not point out things we noted in prior dissections. More content for the dissection is coming throughout the day so make sure to check back at this post in the future.
