Throughout Star Wars canon, droids have played a prominent role in almost every major arm of the galaxy. Whether it is piloting ships, assisting with technical matters, assassinating key figures or serving on the front lines of the battlefield, Star Wars would not be the same without them. Droids such as R2-D2, HK-47 and (to a lesser extent) the B1 battle droids prominent during the Clone Wars not only serve a specific purpose within Star Wars society, but also feature unique and interesting personalities. Obviously Star Wars: The Old Republic will be bursting at the seams with durosteel-clad machines, but as the game takes place three thousand years before the original trilogy, droid technology will be in a slightly more primitive state. Today we will take a closer look at exactly where droid technology stands in the Old Republic.
