Friday Update: Trooper Dossier

For the Christmas Eve update, BioWare announced more updates for the Trooper class. Players can choose a member of the Zabrak species for their Trooper. The Troopers will fly a Rendili Hyperworks BT-7 Thunderclap which confirms our speculation about it in the Space Combat Video Dissection. The Weequay demolitions expert Tanno Vik joins the game as the Trooper Class Companion. Also included in the update was a revamp to the Trooper Class page which includes more information about the Advanced Classes of the Trooper. Most important for the Troopers out there is the class video (embed after the jump) along with the Dissection of it that we covered yesterday. The Battle Heats Up on Alderaan

Today we're treated with an action packed Alderaan Warzone video, previously unveiled yesterday at EA's Winter Showcase. The warzone on Alderaan was first revealed at E3 2010, but little information was provided at that time. For a better description of the warzone's game mechanics and some elaboration by BioWare's Blaine Christine, look no further than our recent Winter Showcase Coverage.

This week's update is a planetary one by the name of Ilum. Those who are familiar with the EU should recognize the name as it has been featured in Star Wars: Clone Wars, Star Wars: Empire at War, and the Jedi Quest comic series to name a few. With the final outcome of the war between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic still undecided, the icy planet Ilum sits squarely in the cross-hairs. The crystals that grow here in abundance are the source of incredible power and possibility. Jedi and Sith alike have long sought them for their Lightsabers, but the ramifications may go much deeper.

Recently the Empire launched a major assault against the Jedi on Ilum, destroyed the Orders sanctuaries, and initiated an ambitious operation of unknown intent. With its forces already spread thin, the Republic has been unable to strike back in such a remote region, but what price might they pay for losing this valuable resource?

Friday Update: Smuggler Secrets and Blood of the Empire

This week's friday update is Smuggler Secrets:

No two Smugglers are exactly alike, and you'll be able to customize your character to fit your play style. You'll face many choices in how your Smuggler develops as you explore the Old Republic galaxy. One of the most important decisions will be which Advanced Class to pursue whether you want to become the fastest draw in the Outer Rim as a Gunslinger, or whether you prefer to specialize in some of the Smugglers more cunning tactics as a Scoundrel. Both paths have their own rewards and more choices within their various disciplines, but you'll have to choose what style suits you best or better yet, maybe you'll want to try them both!

Learn more about this dashing rogues skills, associates, and what may be the fastest starship in the galaxy!

The 'Smuggler Secrets' update contains information on a known associate, smuggler's ship, Twi'lek inhabitant page, and specializations. As well the Smuggler Secrets there is Blood of the Empire Issue 12:

Blood of the Empire reaches its twelfth and final issue, and Teneb Kel must face the aftermath of his actions. Exal Kressh is defeated, but the Emperor and the Dark Council will have further plans for their servant. What fate is Teneb prepared to carve for himself? And what will he do about Maggot?

BioWare's Joanne Laroche announced some more Space Combat details as part of its launch as a information page in the official website's Game Systems section:

Blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, and a variety of other obstacles as you encounter fast-paced Space Combat missions in Star Wars: The Old Republic. In these occurrences, you'll fly your personal starship to various hot spots on the galaxy map and experience gameplay that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars space battles.
