  • SWTOR Launches in New European and Middle Eastern Countries

    Starting today, Star Wars: The Old Republic is available to a completely new set of countries in Europe and the Middle East. If you happen to live in any of the following countries, you can now pickup the game at buy.swtor.com and participating local retailers.

  • Asia Pacific Launch Goes to Lightspeed

    The Star Wars: The Old Republic Asia Pacific launch that includes countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore is go! As mentioned yesterday, the Asia Pacific region has three separate servers all physically located in Australia - Dalborra (PvE), Master Dar'Nala (PvP) and Gav Daragon (RP PvE). Keep in mind that the three servers are only BioWare’s initial launch servers and may open more in the future if demand requires it. Expecting a horde of players, the community team at BioWare setup an FAQ for the region’s players.

    In it, the FAQ lays out the first details regarding when server transfers for subscribers.

    FAQQualified players in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, or Singapore, will be offered one-time free character transfers to Asia Pacific servers for a limited time period in late April. No specific date has been confirmed at this time. We will be sending an email to all qualified players by early March with more details. 

    The date, while relatively soon considering the tech BioWare has to deploy for it post launch, spurred a bit of controversy on the official forum due to not being available on day one. There are also qualifications for a character to be eligible for a server transfer that players should be aware of.

    FAQ

    Only characters created on The Old Republic servers by February 28, 2012, 5:01PM EDT, 7:01PM NZDT, 2:01PM HKT, 2:01PM SGT qualify for transfers.

    Players will want to take note of the window, as any characters created after that point will not receive a transfer as part of this limited one-time transfer program. The FAQ includes much more of interest to Asia Pacific players so make sure to check it out if you intend to play in the region.

  • Oceanic Server Names and Launch Timing

    This week marks the official launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic in the Asia Pacific region. Stephen Reid posted some initial information on the official forums detailing specific launch times and server names.

    This week we officially launch Star Wars: The Old Republic in several new territories, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

    Lots of more information on all aspects of the launch will be released tomorrow in an update to our official FAQ, but as we've heard requests for server names and timing, we thought we'd give you those details a little earlier.

  • Celebrating a Successful Launch: A Look At The Old Republic

    After just two months of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s release, BioWare christened the occasion with a new video release. The video coined “A Look At The Old Republic” highlights developer and fan thoughts on the game post release.

  • Asia Pacific Launch Details

    BioWare has previously said that March 1st, 2012 was the estimated date for Star Wars: The Old Republic launcing in Oceanic regions. That date has now been officially confirmed. With the introduction of dedicated servers in the region, players will be allowed to transfer existing characters from the current servers to these new servers.

    Courtney WoodsBioWare and LucasArts are excited to announce that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ will officially launch in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore on March 1st, 2012! Fans in these regions who purchase the game will be able to experience their very own Star Wars™ saga on regional servers. Players who have already begun their journey will also have a limited-time opportunity to migrate their characters from their current servers to Asia Pacific servers after the launch on March 1st, giving them the chance to take advantage of the decreased network latency by playing on a regional server. All players who qualify for a character transfer will be notified in early March with more details.

  • NYC Launch Event, Interview with Dr. Ray Muzyka

    Last night, doctors Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk of BioWare attended a Star Wars: The Old Republic launch party at the Union Square Best Buy. At the event, the staff answered questions from the audience, gave out t-shirts, raffled off copies of the game, and signed Star Wars: The Old Republic NYC Launch Event lithographs for fans picking up their copies of the game. As always, Darth Hater was there to take in the festivities and bring a slice of the fun to our readers at home. Dr. Ray Muzyka was gracious enough to conduct a short interview with us as fans picked up their long awaited copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic
