Star Wars: The Old Republic gives players the opportunity to choose from eight heroic classes, but many of the galaxy’s most influential organizations exist in the shadows, away from the front lines of the war. The Republic Strategic Information Service, more commonly known as the SIS, is one such group. Like their Imperial counterparts, the Galactic Republic places a high value on information and intelligence, and the Republic SIS is their most valuable asset in the area of intelligence gathering.

Lore Update: Sullustan
Sullustans may not be as memorable as races like the Hutts, Jawas or Twi’leks, but anyone who’s seen Return of the Jedi will remember black eyed, jowly Nien Nunb, who co-piloted the Millennium Falcon for Lando Calrissian while Han and Chewie were down on the forest moon of Endor. What are these mouse-eyed people like, where do they come from, and how will they be present in Star Wars: The Old Republic? Join us past the jump as we answer these questions.

Lore Update: Sith Warrior
Today we delve into one of the most iconic archetypes in Star Wars lore: the Sith Warrior. If you’ve ever faked a respirator voice, told someone you were their father or tried to choke someone with the power of your mind, chances are you love (or hate) the Sith Warrior. Harkening back to the days of old, when the original trilogy premiered in all its glory, BioWare gave us the Sith Warrior class in Star Wars: The Old Republic as an outlet for Darth Vader fans to live their dreams. Let us take a look into the history and lore behind the hate-mongering Warriors - the angriest Force wielders in a galaxy far, far away.
-
Lore Update: Rodian
Ever since the argument arose about whether Greedo shot first, Rodians have been a popular alien species in Star Wars canon. Rodians have appeared in all but one film and most everything else in the Expanded Universe. Throughout all their appearances, the story of the Rodian species has evolved to be quite rich and complex. As such, it should be no surprise that Rodians will also be making an appearance in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Let us take some time to learn more about Rodians and see what it is that makes them tick.

Lore Update: Ithorian

One the most memorable scenes in any of the Star Wars movies is the Mos Eisley cantina from Episode IV: A New Hope. As the camera pans the wide variety of species in the bar, it catches an Ithorian, a brown-skinned alien with a head shape reminiscent of a hammerhead shark's. The Ithorians are a peace-loving race with a long history and will appear in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Lore Update: Selkath
Casualties are commonplace in the Star Wars galaxy, and the means to quickly return combatants to the battlefield as cheaply as possible is an absolute necessity. Kolto is the substance that filled this role during the Old Republic era, serving as a cheap alternative to the newly emerging bacta. Kolto is exclusive to the planet Manaan, and the planet's sentient species, the Selkath, regulate its production and distribution throughout the galaxy. Today we will take a closer look at the Selkath and their role during the Old Republic era and beyond.

Lore Update: Jawas

Exotic aliens are par for the course in Star Wars: The Old Republic, but even in a Mos Eisley Cantina of diversity, Jawas stand out from the crowd. Most readers will be at least somewhat familiar with Jawas as the droid traders who sell R2-D2 and C-3PO to Luke's uncle Owen in A New Hope. In this Lore Update, we will examine this iconic species so that we can better understand them as we run into them in the deserts of Tatooine - even if we just use that understanding to know where to shock them to find out which one jumps the highest. -
Lore Update: Gamorreans

Gamorreans have a certain reputation throughout the galaxy. Most people see them simply as large brutes with small brains. Unfortunately for the Gamorreans, this is not just a stereotype; it is reality. One of their green, thickset hunters summed it up best when he told another Gamorrean, You too stupid to even know you are stupid. Their place in the galaxy as physical laborers and enforcers stretches back centuries before the events in Star Wars: The Old Republic and they still have strong roots in the dark shadows of the galaxy's underworld. -
Lore Update: Voss

Of all the currently confirmed NPCs, the Voss belong to a very special club in Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Voss are one of two species designed by BioWare specifically for the game. Although the planet Voss already existed in the Expanded Universe, BioWare used the planets obscurity as a blank canvas to create this mystical, enigmatic race. -
Lore Update: Canderous Ordo

In the Mandalorians' native language of Mando'a, Canderous roughly translates to "important rock." Canderous Ordo lived up to his name many times over throughout his illustrious career as a Mandalorian warrior. Not only was he an important figure in the Mandalorian culture, but he was also a steadfast rock to anyone lucky enough to gain his loyalty. He left many adversaries dead in his wake and left a legacy that remained in the minds of Mandalorians for hundreds of years to come, possibly even to the time period in Star Wars: The Old Republic. -
Lore Update: The Infinite Empire

The Eternity Vault is the first Operation available to players in Star Wars: The Old Republic; an elaborate prison created to contain an ancient evil. To understand the significance of the Eternity Vault, players must understand the evil contained within. BioWare gave us a sneak peak at the final boss of this Operation; a powerful Rakatan Force user, who has been imprisoned for many millennia. This revelation brings us to the Infinite Empire, a powerful civilization that players were first introduced to in the original Knights of the Old Republic. -
Lore Update: Bith

When you want to throw an awesome party in the Star Wars universe, you need to hire a Bith band. Known across the Galaxy for their musical talents, they are often seen in cantinas and at political functions. Their talents do not stop at music though, as they have great intelligence and can fill many roles in society, such as scientists, criminals, and even Jedi. Learning more about this unique species may help us understand the roles they will play in Star Wars: The Old Republic. -
Lore Update: Sith Inquisitor

Sith Inquisitors "believe the order of the universe belongs to them." This observation by Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas is perhaps the most suitable key to obtaining a better understanding of these members of the Sith Empire. For millenia, the Inquisitors have wielded the dark side to alter their environment and even the course of history. Their use of Sith magic and their powers of concealment impact many political situations in the galaxy, including the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant. By taking a closer look at the history behind these deceptive and powerful individuals we can gain a greater appreciation for how they will effect the galaxy in Star Wars: The Old Republic. -
Lore Update: Cyborgs

In a universe featuring hundreds of unique species, powerful Force users, and an epic struggle between good and evil, the science of Star Wars is sometimes overlooked. BioWare indicated for some time now that players might be able to play as characters with cybernetic modifications in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Cyborgs, or cybernetic organisms, are defined in Star Wars as biological entities with mechanical parts. Some might be surprised to hear that two of the most important characters in the films, Luke and Anakin Skywalker, are technically classified as cyborgs.

Lore Update: Droids
Throughout Star Wars canon, droids have played a prominent role in almost every major arm of the galaxy. Whether it is piloting ships, assisting with technical matters, assassinating key figures or serving on the front lines of the battlefield, Star Wars would not be the same without them. Droids such as R2-D2, HK-47 and (to a lesser extent) the B1 battle droids prominent during the Clone Wars not only serve a specific purpose within Star Wars society, but also feature unique and interesting personalities. Obviously Star Wars: The Old Republic will be bursting at the seams with durosteel-clad machines, but as the game takes place three thousand years before the original trilogy, droid technology will be in a slightly more primitive state. Today we will take a closer look at exactly where droid technology stands in the Old Republic. -
Lore Update: Bastila Shan

The galaxy's historic texts recount the tales of heroes and villains as a simple conflict between good and evil. The heroes are portrayed as infallible beings unable to falter from their quest for peace and justice. However, reality sees the side of these heroes that the history books do not. It knows about Revan and his fall before saving the galaxy from the evil clutches of Darth Malak. History also knows about the similar path his companion, Bastila Shan, took during Revan's redemption. Reality is full of gray and Bastila, one of the galaxy's greatest heroes, was anything but infallible.

Lore Update: Wookiees

Wookiees are one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars saga. It is hard to imagine a game as expansive as The Old Republic without including them. By the same token, it is impossible to visualize characters as iconic as Smugglers without including a towering, hairy companion to back them up when the inevitable firefight arises. BioWare is sure to pull from classic characters that already exist in the galaxy and use the known history to shape these archetypes into the perfect companion. -
Lore Update: Weequay

There is a myriad of species in the Star Wars universe. From prominent races like Humans, Twi'leks, and Zabraks, to the more obscure such as the Voss, Kubaz, and Vurk, aliens proliferate across the galaxy. Though some aren't playable in Star Wars: The Old Republic, it is still good to understand on who these aliens are and what their role is in the galaxy. As part of our continuing lore updates, we are taking a look at the Weequay, a species you may recognize from the Star Wars films and extended universe. -
Lore Update: Ajunta Pall

Any examination of the Sith Empire, and indeed the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic, would be sadly lacking if no mention was made of Ajunta Pall. His story begins some 3,300 years Before the Treaty of Coruscant (BTC), during the Hundred-Year Darkness and the war between Jedi and Dark Jedi. Ajunta Pall was one of the Dark Jedi who fought against the Jedi Order. When the century of conflict finally ended with the defeat of the Dark Jedi at the Battle of Corbos, Pall was one of the few Dark Jedi to have survived. -
Lore Update: Dashade

Strength. Resilence. Brutality. These are just a few words that describe the Dashade race. Though they are all but extinct at the time of The Old Republic, their fearsome reputation remains, and their natural abilities make them a match for even the Jedi and Sith. Few opponents are more dangerous or terrifying than a Dashade warrior.
