Given that a greater amount of players are now level 50 and spending additional time with Crew Skills, maps and guides to gathering node locations are becoming more important. When starting new alts to farm gathering materials for Crew Skills, resource maps can be extremely useful in speeding the rate of acquisition for raw components. Our intention is to begin assisting the hunting-gathering player base with a means of locating and identifying all known nodes on each planet. For our fourth installment, we cover the Bioanalysis nodes of Nar Shaddaa.

Friday Update: Fan Friday, E3 Awards, and Developer Blog

This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update starts out with new polls. First up is "What did you enjoy most from our E3 coverage?," and next is "What is your favorite piece of extended universe content relating to The Old Republic?" We've also got a Fan Friday, featuring a neat new selection of UI-themed icons, new concept art, and of course some great fan art. Fan site Ask A Jedi receives the light in this week's Fan Site Spotlight, and answers some questions from BioWare.
Coupled with the update was an article on the awards that Star Wars: The Old Republic won at this year's E3. Unfortunately, this year we were unable to don our elaborate post-it note Best Game at E3 award but that award still stands for this year's attendance.
Last but certainly not least, we hear from Ian Ryan, one of Star Wars: The Old Republic's writing team, about what the writing team is doing for this final stage of the game's development. The official DevTracker posts follow the jump. The media gallery below contains all of the images from this week's update. -
Lore Update: Nar Shaddaa

Of all the planets set to appear in Star Wars: The Old Republic, the moon of Nar Shaddaa is the easiest one to find an analogy for in the real world: Las Vegas. Nar Shaddaa is the over-the-top fictionalized Sin City of the Star Wars Universe. In this article, we will explore Nar Shaddaa, its history and its place in Star Wars: The Old Republic. -
Friday Update: Fan Friday

Today's update is a Fan Friday, which of course brings with it a Studio Insider: an in-depth look at Concept Artist Diego Almazan's creation of a Sith Temple. The Fan Friday includes some new concept art scenes that look to include pieces from Alderaan, Taris, Voss, Nar Shaddaa, and Hutta; a selection of new emoticons, and some new creature avatars. Fan site Mos Eisley Radio got the spotlight shone on them, and the chance to answer some questions from BioWare.
The Community Q&A thread to go along with the Fan Friday is focused on Flashpoints, which should mean plenty of answers about TOR's answers to dungeons coming down the pipe in a few weeks. Head on over to the official thread and ask the devs some of those burning and insightful questions you have!
As usual for a Fan Friday, there's a couple of new polls up on the forums. The first is Where do you spend most of your time on the forums, and the second is Which Flashpoint are you most interested in so far?
As we mentioned on Tuesday, Gordon Walton, BioWare Austin's co-Studio General Manager, has left BioWare. Stephen Reid stepped in to the forums to talk about Walton's recent departure--or more accurately, to pass along Gordon's own words about his departure. Stephen reports that "Gordon's a great guy and left us on great terms, we thought we'd give him one last right of reply." His quote, along with lots of juicy tidbits from the Studio Insider, available after the jump. You can also find our Media Gallery of the update below. -
Planets Overview

The Star Wars galaxy is filled with thousands of planets, from barren wastelands to thriving city-planets. The announced planets for Star Wars: The Old Republic are a well-chosen cross section of this diverse spectrum. While some planets are more politically important than others, each will play its role in terms of both gameplay and story. In this overview, you will find a listing of each planet, its faction allegiance, its terrain, relevant , and a brief look at its history and how the planet connects to the Old Republic timeline.

Faction Lore: Czerka
The Czerka Corporation is very well known to fans of Knights of the Old Republic . The company played large parts in both games, always serving as the epitome of corporate corruption. Thanks to the HoloNet, we know that Czerka left its mark under the sands of Tatooine, but what they worked on remains a mystery. We know from general lore that Czerka does not simply fade away after Knights of the Old Republic 2 , and records of its actions and examples of its equipment in stories during and after the Galactic Empire tell us that it should certainly be alive and kicking during the Cold War. Read on for a little bit of history, and you'll see why we believe Czerka will play a large part in Star Wars : The Old Republic .

Friday Update: Nar Shaddaa
This week's Star Wars : The Old Republic update is a planet update in the form of Nar Shaddaa: Circling the planet Hutta is its largest moon Nar Shaddaa, the ultimate corrupt city. Dominated by underworld concerns and owned by the Hutts, this sprawling mass of skyscrapers is considered one of the most dangerous and exciting places in the galaxy, where anything can be had for the right price.
Access the HoloNet to learn more about Nar Shaddaa. Check out this video to see the endless city that covers the moon's landscape. Also, don't forget to visit the media section for never-before-seen screenshots, concept art, and wallpapers showing this capital of illegal commerce.
Also included in this week's update is a new issue of Blood of the Empire and information on the Threat of Peace in print. Working Dissection and decoded Aurebesh after the jump. -
Friday Update: Companion Characters, Sith Warrior HoloNet Revamp
As previewed yesterday, another Game Systems menu item appeared this morning: Companion Characters. Every Star Wars hero needs a companion. Han has Chewie, Luke has R2-D2 -- even Jabba has the cackling monkey lizard Salacious B. Crumb. These characters will compliment your strengths or weaknesses, and provide company for the epic journey you will inevitably undertake. Whether they're combative, friendly, flirtatious, or even just good for a laugh, they always contribute to your development and serve as a sounding board for your choices. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, a variety of these Companion Characters will join your cause.
Learn more about Companion Characters and how they can shape and enhance your game play by visiting the Game Systems section!
Read up on Vette, a female Twi'lek companion you might meet up with in game if you roll a Sith Warrior.
Aurebesh: A Gift From Lord Baras, Risha's Sister, Star of Kala'uun (credit to Drom)
And speaking of the Sith Warrior, the class' HoloNet section is revamped with a new class icon, animations, a different layout, and expanded information:Wondering how you will be able to customize the Sith Warrior to fit your specific play style? We are excited to confirm the two Advanced Classes for the Sith Warrior: The Juggernaut and the Marauder! Whether you want to charge into the fray as a Juggernaut, punishing your adversaries while protecting your allies, or slice through enemy ranks with two Lightsabers and unmatched aggression, the Advanced Classes system in Star Wars: The Old Republic will give you the power to match your play style.
In conjunction with the Companion Character section released today, we present you with one of the Sith Warrior's Companions -- Vette! You can learn more about this known associate on the Sith Warrior page or by accessing Vette's biography.
Check out the newly updated HoloNet to get details about the Advanced Classes available to the Sith Warrior. Also be sure to visit the media section for a new video featuring the Sith Warrior as well as some screenshots showing the Juggernaut and Marauder in action!
Sean Dahlberg's response to the spoiling aspect of revealing companions:Solar is correct. As in the Companions section, each class has a completely unique set of Companions. That said, we will not be telling you about each of them right now. Some of them are surprises and might ruin the fun in learning who can and who can't be your companion. The ones we do highlight are generally the companions you will meet early on in your adventures.
And yes, Vette is indeed a companion available for the Sith Warrior. -
Friday Update Preview: Companions
Head over to IGN for a preview of tomorrow's Star Wars: The Old Republic update and an interview with BioWare's James Ohlen on Companions. IGNPC: Can you give us a few specific examples of how companions might impact a particular player's experience?
James Ohlen: Companion characters have a significant impact on the player's experience. They are integral to the player's storyline. They interject during conversation to give the player their view on things. They give commentary as the player explores the world. They are an important part of combat, providing extra DPS, healing, tanking abilities or even crowd control.
IGNPC: Companions play an important part in the story, but they also impact the player's gameplay options. What types of tactical contributions will companions be able to make?
James Ohlen: Companions add a lot to a player's combat capabilities. Each companion has a specific role, whether it be additional DPS, tanking, healing or crowd control. Companions also have special abilities that can be activated to significantly change what's going on during a battle. One companion might lay down suppressing fire, giving the player some breathing room to escape or turn the tide of the battle. Another companion might trap a tough enemy in an energy bubble, allowing the player to use a divide and conquer strategy in a battle. Players can also equip items to his companion character. This includes standard gear such as armor and weapons. Additionally, what a player equips to his companion can change the companion's behavior.
The screenshots included in the article feature a Trandoshan paired with what appears to be a Jedi Consular and a Jedi Knight paired with a Republic T-7 Astromech.
UPDATE: Earlier today Gamespot published another quick look at the Sith Warrior. The video included in the article reveals minor story spoilers and also shows multiple Sith Warrior abilities in action, all while enjoying the classic "Duel of Fates" music. We also appear to see the Sith Warrior operating a speeder bike at 1:14.
In addition to the new video, the article appears to reveal a few game play facts including a companion character name Vette who is a Twi'lek pirate, and possibly that Nar Shaddaa will be an included location. Highlights below. One of the Sith Warrior's companions will be Vette, a wisecracking pirate of the Twi'lek race (the humanoids with those crazy tentacles growing out of their heads, like Bib Fortuna from Return of the Jedi) with a dark past.
...the young pirate found a new lease on life on the smuggler planet of Nar Shaddaa, where she meets your character and comes across as a character who has both a cynical side as well as a lighter side that comes out when people around her take themselves too seriously...
Sean Dahlberg on all of the 'Sith Love':Both the Allegiance and Class polls have shown things to be pretty even at this point. Granted, this is only a segment of the community but it's a good sampling.
We also plan on giving the Republic their moment to shine. I can't get into the exact reasons as to why some things are released before others (and there is a variety of reasons for different assets) but we also have a lot of "Republic" people on the team, too.
So, while the proof will be in the pudding (an expression, we're not actually giving out pudding. Sorry.), the Republic will definitely get their due. And Soon(TM)

The Old Republic: Smuggler's Vanguard
The official Star Wars website posted an original short story today by Rob Chestney entitled Smuggler's Vanguard. Rob Chestney previously brought us the Threat of Peace webcomic. The story focuses on Hylo Visz, a Mirialan smuggler known to us from the timeline series as the leader of the smuggler fleet that broke the Mandalorian Blockade.
There are many interesting references in the story. Planets referenced include Corellia, Talus, and Nal Hutta, as well as Hutta's moon, Nar Shaddaa. Hylo's ship is called the Crimson Fleece, and the supporting characters include a Nikto named Musk, Barrga the Hutt, and an unnamed Weequay.
The story contains a mix of action and subterfuge and fits the concept of the Smuggler to a tee. For more details, follow the link to the full story below. Hat tip to Jedidsm on the heads up. -
Dissection of Threat of Peace
A few months ago we got a not-so-subtle tip from Rob Chestney that the Threat of Peace webcomic is an important asset for internet detectives following Star Wars: The Old Republic. For us here at Darth Hater, we see it as a relatively untapped well of gameplay and story information, possibly rivaling the Holonet. To this end we thought it might be a good idea to look at some of the more unusual or interesting clues that may be hidden in the art and story of the comic. Hit the jump for a fresh look at the Threat of Peace.

Threat of Peace, Issue 20
The twentieth issue of Threat of Peace catches Lord Angral aboard his battle cruiser. After receiving a tip from his criminal partner, Angral turns back to Korriban to confront the traitorous Lord Baras. At the same time, Jedi Master Orgus Din surprises the Bounty Hunter Braden in a Nar Shaddaa cantina and demands to know who was responsible for the attack on Coruscant.

Potential Planets Prioritized
The current data released about Star Wars: The Old Republic has unveiled five planets so far: Tython, Korriban, Nal Hutta, Ord Mantell, and most recently, Coruscant. Obviously the Star Wars Universe is gigantic, and full of iconic planets, beyond just these five, so now we are going to take a deeper look at the planets that have been featured in previous media. This includes planets which appeared in the KOTOR series, as well as those that appeared in the movies.

The Smuggler's Moon
We all know Nal Hutta will be the starting planet for Bounty Hunters, and possibly for other classes. With Coruscant the capital of the Republic, it is possible this moon could serve as the major metropolis for the Empire. With its history of being within the Kotor series as well as being in orbit of a confirmed planet, Nar Shaddaa could very well be seen within The Old Republic.
Nar Shaddaa is a vast metropolis, similar in scale to Coruscant orbiting its parent planet Nal Hutta. It features towering skyscrapers across the planet, covering its entire surface. While it is a massive city, its history is far different from the Republic counterpart.
When the Hutts evacuated their home planet of Varl and arrived on Nal Hutta, the native Evocii stood in their way. As a result, the Evocii were enslaved and forced to the nearby moon. Here they were forced to start construction of starports for this newly growing trade hub. Upon completion of their labor they were forced into the lower portions of the city, similar to the society of Taris prior to its destruction.
As trade routes slowed, crime grew. Nar Shadaa became a home for all forms of criminals, from slavers to smugglers. This rampant crime gave Nar Shadaa the nickname "The Smuggler's Moon." Think of this moon as a giant Mos Eisley, as Obi Wan said "a hive of scum and villainy." Its current state is much like it was in Kotor II, a bunch of slums with crime lords every 3 feet. If it enters the game I could see this being a major gathering point for trade and spamming.
