Game Update 1.6: Ancient Hypergate Warzone Preview
Game Update 1.6’s most important addition is of course, the Ancient Hypergate Warzone. While we’ve seen video of it before, I thought it would be a good idea to jump into the Warzone on the live servers to get an initial feeling on the new addition. This preview serves as my first impression of the Warzone before any guides we happen to create.
We would love to hear your thoughts on the new Warzone.

Gamebreaker Interview with Gabe Amatangelo
Gabe Amatangelo happened to be at PAX and Gamebreaker was able to grab him for an interview on Star Wars: The Old Republic. During the interview, Gabe fielded on everything from the layoffs to PvP. The most noteworthy item to come out of the discussion was the mention (like in our recent interview) about a new World PvP Event.
It was one of those last features we tried to tackle before launch, and when you’re launching a major MMO, emergent issues arise and resources had to be pulled from it. It was unfortunate, and we were never able to get Ilum to the design spec that we wanted.
At this point, what we’re wanting to do is an event that revitalizes it. It’ll have something to do with an alien race crash-landing into it, and we’re targeting a January timeframe, which is when update 1.1 happened this last January. While it may not be new as it was mentioned in our last talk with the developer, it still offers some insight on future content. To see the full interview, head on over to Gamebreaker.

BioWare Responds to Questions on Recent Developer Blog
As you saw on Tuesday, Austin Peckenpaugh's developer blog on class changes and balance went up to a bit of contention on the official forum. With that, the community had plenty of questions to ask and BioWare was more than happy to respond with a few examples on how the new system works in comparison to the old one for those seeking further clarification in regards to resolve.
Consider the following examples under the new system:
ex. A: Player A stuns the target for 4 seconds. 1 second after the stun is applied, player B stuns the same target for 4 seconds. The target is controlled for a total duration of 5 seconds.- Player A stuns the enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = 4 seconds | enemy gains 800 Resolve
- 1 second later, player B stuns the same enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = existing 4s + new 1s = 5 seconds | enemy gains 200 Resolve
- Enemy gains a total of 1000 Resolve for being controlled for 5 seconds
- Resolve gain rate = 200 per second of stun
ex B: Player A stuns the target for 4 seconds. 4 seconds after the stun is applied, player B stuns the same target for 4 seconds. The target is controlled for a total duration of 8 seconds.- Player A stuns the enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = 4 seconds | enemy gains 800 Resolve
- 4 seconds later, player B stuns the same enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = existing 4s + new 4s = 8 seconds | enemy gains 800 Resolve
- Enemy gains a total of 1600 Resolve for being controlled for 8 seconds
- Resolve gain rate = 200 per second of stun
Consider those same examples under the old system:
ex A: Player A stuns the target for 4 seconds. 1 second after the stun is applied, player B stuns the same target for 4 seconds. The target is controlled for a total duration of 5 seconds.- Player A stuns the enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = 4 seconds | enemy gains 800 Resolve
- 1 second later, player B stuns the same enemy for 4 seconds | effective control duration = existing 4s + new 1s = 5 seconds | enemy gains 800 Resolve
- Enemy gains a total of 1600 Resolve for being controlled for 5 seconds
- Resolve gain rate = 320 per second of stun
ex. B: Player A stuns the target for 4 seconds.
The only difference here is that the enemy is never treated to undue Resolve gains. Resolve gain always matches the amount of absolute control time. Two coordinated players can control a target as long as ever, but no longer than ever before. For the thread in full, hit the official forum.

Where in the Galaxy is World PvP?
World PvPers such as myself might have noticed by now that there is a severe lack of organically spawned World PvP. When I leveled my first character to fifty, I came across three enemy players the entire time. My second character was a slight improvement at four enemies. How could this happen? I fight on a PvP server specifically to fight people in the open world. So why do I never find anyone to fight? Why don’t you join me as I dig deeper into the issue to find the cause after the jump.

Open Forum: Open World PvP
While Open World PvP in Star Wars: The Old Republic’s may be…no longer in the game beyond Outlaw’s Den. At the Guild Summit, BioWare admitted that they were going back to the drawing board on Open World PvP. Now that we have had a fair amount of time to think about the issues with the initial concept, we want to get a frank assessment of what the community wants to see from Open World PvP. What do you want from Open World PvP? Does it have to be rewarding? Should BioWare actively encourage it through server announcements and other means? Should it include vehicles, turrets, encampments or purely a mass player versus player zerg? If you have any feedback that does not fit the above questions, feel free to include it here as well in the comments section of this post.
We will hand select a few choice comments to be featured in the next podcast episode. Be constructive with your comments and do not flame or degrade others. We will moderate accordingly.

David Hunt Details New Tier Gear
As you may have heard yesterday during the EA Press Conference, Terror from Beyond is on its way to Star Wars: The Old Republic next month. With that, many expected a new tier of gear as a part of the new Operation. Well, it appears we are getting a new tier of gear for PvE as well as weapons for PvP.
I talked to David Hunt (Systems Designer), and he shed some light upcoming gear. He said that (for PvE), Terror from Beyond's Hard Mode will include a new set of gear that is a sub-tier of the larger tier that started with Campaign gear. It will also have non-slot restricted armornings. Nightmare Explosive Conflict will speed up the acquisition of the new set and provides new challenges for Operation groups.
For PvP, new mainhand and offhand items will become available from the PvP vendors when Terror from Beyond is released. These will be included so PvP players don't feel the need to get the hilts and barrels from PvE items to get the highest weapon damage in some cases. The rest of the set will release when Ancient Hypergates becomes available. We also have plans to release a new Recruit MK-2 set.For the thread in full, visit the SWTOR forums.
