The Space Combat missions in Star Wars: The Old Republic may be a mini-game but the rewards can be rather fruitful in both monetary value and fun. In order to show off and explain the various aspects of Space Combat, the loot that comes from it, experience points and more – we created a guide to walk you through some of the more important aspects of it. After the jump contains a video guide along with several options players have for loot and upgrades that should make the experience more enjoyable as players make their way through the game.

Using Your Xbox Gamepad For Space Combat
With the game now officially out, fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic will likely experience space combat for the first time. Some, if not most, will notice that there is currently no support for a gamepad natively through the client of the game. Luckily, Darth Hater has an answer to that very issue. Using JoyToKey along with the help of a tutorial on Instructables, we were able to create a configuration file that will allow players to use their Xbox 360 gamepad in Space Combat. To assist users in the setup process, we made a quick video along with a small text guide.
Hit the jump for the video and text tutorial.
Note: You will need the JoyToKey software, our config file (right click/save as), an Xbox 360 Controller, an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver, and Windows for this to work.

Capital Idea: Guild Ships in SWTOR

Several months ago, we featured an op-ed on guild implementation in Star Wars: The Old Republic. In that article, we mentioned BioWare's interest in guild capital ships, while noting that such a unique feature would be unlikely to make it into the game by the launch date. Since then, we saw the addition of a guild page to the HoloNet, and received additional confirmation of developer interest in the idea of guild capital ships. This month, we are taking a closer look at the idea of guild capital ships and how they could be implemented in SWTOR. -
PAX East: James Ohlen Interview

The last time we spoke to James Ohlen, Star Wars: The Old Republic Creative Director, it was back at last summer's Gamescom in Germany. He granted us an opportunity to catch up with him at PAX East, and we discussed a bunch of topics ranging from Game Testing and Space Combat to Advanced Classes... and blowing up Alderaan.

We're having a Saturday update; we got something going up tomorrow. I'm not going to spoil it but it is related to Taral V. No, it isn't a release date. But yeah, we're having an update tomorrow.
Working Dissection of the trailer is in the Media Gallery below. As with all dissections, we will not comment on stuff seen in prior videos. Jace Hall Show Features Space Combat in Action
During Episode 10 of the Jace Hall Show, Space Combat is shown in action to fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic. This segment came at the end of the episode and was the teaser for Episode 11. It is implied that Episode 11 will feature more footage, possibly more of Space Combat. Along with the small teaser of Space Combat was an interview with Director of Production Dallas Dickinson and Marketing Director Leo Olebe from BioWare.
You can find images of the Space Combat segment by using the media gallery below. To watch the full episode visit IGN.
Update: Jace Hall Show Episode 11 is now online and showcases more of the Space Combat that the last episode teased. We uploaded a few screens to the media gallery for viewing but Space Combat deserves to be viewed in video form so make sure to watch the full episode via the link above. One notable thing was confirmed during the video - you can do a barrel roll by pressing the space bar (Leo Olebe). Thanks to Mako for the tip. -
Star Wars Space Combat
One of my earliest Star Wars memories involves chasing my best friend around the house with an original X-wing toy, somehow managing to miss her TIE fighter no matter how fervently I shouted "I got you!" This was almost certainly the genesis of my love of Star Wars space combat. My desire to blow up snub fighters and capital ships persisted throughout my early childhood and melded nicely with my passion for video games. This is why the space combat Comic Con announcement for Star Wars : The Old Republic brought a smile to my face. With the recent PC Action information and PC Gamer leaks in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to look back at some of the ways we see Star Wars space combat represented in video games.
