Operation: Explosive Conflict Trailer

The 1.2 game update to Star Wars: The Old Republic has arrived. Among the new content in this major update is a new end-game Operation, entitled Explosive Conflict. The story picks up where it left off after Karagga's Palace and takes players to the planet of Denova. A new video has been released providing a preview of what to expect.

Alyson BridgeIn Explosive Conflict, the legendary warlord Kephess has united two warring armies under his flag, declaring Denova’s independence and proclaiming himself its ruler. Now the Republic and the Empire, each battling for control over the planet’s vital resources, send their most powerful heroes to battle through the warlord’s army of soldiers and mercenaries before facing off against Kephess himself for control of Denova.

Flashpoint Guide: Kaon Under Siege

As we move closer to the release of the 1.2 game update and the introduction of the Lost Island Flashpoint, players may want to make sure they're fully prepared to experience everything 1.2 has to offer. In 1.1 BioWare introduced the Rise of the Rakghouls patch, which chronicled the story of a mad scientist's experiments and the dangers they posed to the Republic and Empire. Kaon Under Siege is the first part of a multi-instance storyline, similar to the Boarding Party/Foundry Flashpoint chain found earlier in the game. One of the main features of the 1.2 update for Star Wars: The Old Republic is the new user interface customization. Players will be able to resize and move the different UI components around the screen to suit their personal preferences. BioWare has posted a video showing some of the details included with this enhancement. The video demonstrates several features, including pre-made layouts, the long-awaited "target of target" frame, how to save and share custom layouts, and different settings available to specific pieces of the UI.

Official Guild Summit Panel Videos Now Available

While the Star Wars: The Old Republc Guild Summit panels were live streamed as they happened, players who were unable to attend or watch live have been waiting for videos of the event to be posted. David Bass made a post on the official forums announcing the availability of the first two panel videos and indicating more videos would be coming this week.

David BassWe've launched a new YouTube playlist featuring the Guild Summit panels, which were held on March 5th in Austin, TX. Today we are releasing the Operations/Flashpoints panel and the Player Vs. Player panel, and we'll be posting more next week.

With patch 1.2 on the way to the live servers in April, it is a perfect time to look at some of the new armor sets in the game. One of the most notable areas where armor sets were added is with the inclusion of Legacy armor sets that players can purchase from vendors for collectable kits on the capital planets of Dromund Kaas and Coruscant. These sets bind to your Legacy of that server and allows players the ability to transfer them from character to character. After the jump, we detail and preview the various Legacy armor sets.

Note: The Legacy armor sets Birthright and Exalted will look the same, as will Inheritance and Renowned. The only difference is the Exalted and Renowned are modable legacy level 10 and 20 sets that players can use to achieve the same look as their lower end counterparts. Those pieces are available for credits instead at the same vendor and cost anywhere from 75,000-200,000 credits per piece. Also, the videos are 720P however they do not autoplay as 720P, fullscreen and set it to that if you'd like to use that functionality.

As players start to reach end game, the importance of gaining the Datacron bonus stats will rise and have a bigger impact on a player’s overall performance. In this Datacron guide, we walk players through the planet of Taris from the Republic perspective. While both Republic and Sith players can visit Taris, they do so at different points - levels 16-20 for the Republic and levels 32-36 for the Sith. Therefore the planets themselves and maps are a bit different. This guide focuses on the experience of Republic players.

A new Developer Dispatch has been made available on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic site detailing the upcoming changes to the Legacy System in patch 1.2. Among the changes is the ability to create a family tree, create new characters with abilities from your previous characters, unlocking race combinations and other goodies like a mailbox on your ship.

After just two months of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s release, BioWare christened the occasion with a new video release. The video coined “A Look At The Old Republic” highlights developer and fan thoughts on the game post release.

BioWare released their second Quick Start Guide video today showing how the map and travel system works in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Social Media Coordinator Eric Musco covers taxis, speeders, and calling shuttles to quick transport players from one location in the galaxy to another. He also briefly explains the story locations and instances behind green and red barriers designed for specific classes or missions. You can see the full video embed past the jump.

With four days left until the official launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic, retailers are in the process of shipping out the game to their customers. The news of a 48-hour grace period that broke yesterday helped quite a bit yet BioWare/Electronic Arts were already in the process of working with retailers to make sure the game arrived on time for those that pre-ordered. Thanks to this, retailers like Amazon and many others have already shipped their copies in preparation for launch. Among those who received their copies of the game were members of our staff including myself and we are now glad to bring you an unboxing of the retail version of the Collector’s Edition.

This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is a new trailer called 'Join the Fight.' The new, completely in-game trailer, originally premiered at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 and fans loved it. The video is now available for the world to see.

The uneasy peace established by the Treaty of Coruscant is broken and both the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire build their armies. Friday Update: Battle for Alderaan and E3 Highlight Videos

This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is the Battle for Alderaan Highlights Video. The video includes footage of a group of players taking on King Ulgo. Before this, a live stage demo from Gamespot featured the quest at E3 2011 along with many others. Up until now, the context of the event was muddy at best. However, we now have a greater understanding of Alderaan's story and more specifically, the self-proclaimed King Ulgo.
